MEDIA WINNER: Kaitlan Collins CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins grilled Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) on Medicare and Social Security funding in a stellar interview Thursday morning. Collin sat down with Scott days after President Joe Biden's State of the Union address, which featured outbursts and heckling from Republican representatives. At one point, representatives screamed "LIAR" at the president when he claimed, "some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset." During the Thursday interview with Scott, Collins grilled the senator over the plan, picking apart Scott’s latest defense. In one bizarre moment, Scott fixated on something CNN's Jake Tapper said in order to argue that when Democrats legislated savings for Medicare on prescription drugs, they enacted a “cut.” Collins pointed out that Tapper wasn't referring to the Inflation Reduction Act, and instead was discussing different savings proposals from Democrats. "If you’ve budgeted and you’ve got $15,000 and you go and buy a car, and it it now costs $12,000," she reasoned. "That doesn’t mean you only have $12,000. It means you just did not spend all $15,000. Right? Collins went on to note, "Reducing drug spending is not cutting benefits to Medicare." Props for the throughout and fact-heavy interview on such a hot topic -- it even got Maggie Haberman's attention and praise. |
