CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:

SAAM Arcade 2019

August 3-4, 11:30 a.m. - 7 p.m.
The Smithsonian American Art Museum is now accepting all applications from independent video game developers for the fifth annual SAAM Arcade! Every year, thousands of visitors test drive games from a selective group of independent developers whose works are centered around a particular theme.

This year, we are asking independent developers to submit works that align with the specific theme of “breaking barriers" in order to challenge stereotypes about game-makers and players. We are excited to encourage the work of individuals and collectives who embrace inclusivity and promote projects that relish the diversity of their audiences.

We are looking for games that fit one [or more] of the following criteria:

1. The game has unique mechanics and/or gameplay involved in "breaking barriers," including literal, systemic and/or tactile barriers.

2. The game centers around a character or characters that are underrepresented in the video game industry at large (i.e., trans, POC, women, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities).

3. The game was made by an individual or team that is diverse in terms of ages, ethnicities, gender, sexual orientation, backgrounds, or any criteria submitted by the applicant.
Designers must submit this form by April 15 in order to be considered. Selected developers will be notified by May 31 and will receive a small stipend.
