Higher education is just starting to recover from the staggering job losses it suffered during the pandemic. About a third of the sector’s 660,000 lost jobs have been restored as of late spring 2021, according to estimates by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. More than a dozen key positions experienced an increase of responsibilities during the pandemic, including responding to demands arising from the greater awareness of (and backlash to) systemic racism and other social issues.
