President Biden recently listed a number of ways to reduce inflation; one of them was cutting the cost of child care to U.S. families. In new research, Harry Holzer and Isabel Sawhill examine how the Build Back Better Act’s child care subsidies could have affected labor force participation, GDP, and inflation.
Though Biden’s judicial nominations and confirmations still outnumber those of his recent predecessors at this point, his comparatively slow pace in filling vacancies from late January through May suggests that his two-year numbers will no longer top the chart, finds Russell Wheeler.
“The United States should respond to any Chinese attack, yes—in that sense, there should not be strategic ambiguity—but rather than promise to respond militarily, we should seek to develop a wider range of response options that include the use of economic, diplomatic, and other tools,” argues Michael O’Hanlon.
