FORECAST IN DETAIL

Fall weather has taken over – with authority. High temperatures for much of the upcoming week won’t escape the 60s and most nights dip into the 40s (or even cooler in some spots). Doesn’t it seem like yesterday when every day was 90 degrees? Chances of rain this week are scarce – and we could actually use some.

Today (Columbus Day): We awaken to our chilliest morning since May – with most spots in the 40s. Despite considerable sunshine, highs have a hard time getting much above 60 degrees today. And, there’s a brisk breeze from the north at 10-15 mph, gusting over 20 mph at times. Layer up. Confidence: High

Tonight: Winds go calm and under clear skies it’s even cooler than last night. Lows dip into the mid-to-upper 40s downtown to the upper 30s in our colder suburbs. No frost yet, but close. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): After the certifiably crisp start, temperatures mount a solid recovery. Sunshine is abundant and highs reach the mid-60s. Winds are light. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy and not quite as cool as the previous night. Lows range from the low-to-mid 40s in our cooler suburbs to around 50 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

The weather from Wednesday to Sunday generally looks quite good. Wednesday and Thursday are the mildest days, with highs in the upper 60s and low 70s. Highs cool down to 60-65 Friday and Saturday in the wake of a front before rising back to the upper 60s Sunday. Lows are mostly around 50-55 in the city, while ranging through the 40s in our cooler suburbs throughout the period.

A weak disturbance sliding by over the weekend could trigger a period of clouds and showers (timing uncertain), but it’s unlikely to be a big deal, if it materializes at all. Most days Wednesday to Friday should be at least partly sunny. Confidence: Medium
