| Tomorrow (Tuesday): This is our first tricky winterlike storm forecast of the season. A mixed bag of precipitation is likely in the morning. There’s a good chance much of the region sees precipitation begin as sleet or a sleet-rain mix. In our colder areas, especially north and west of the Beltway, some snow could briefly mix in. As you head north and west of Leesburg and Frederick toward the Interstate 81 corridor, sleet could even whiten the ground and pockets of freezing rain are possible. Since temperatures in the immediate D.C. metro region will be above freezing, we don’t expect major impacts, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see some winter weather advisories issued for our far western and northwestern areas. In the immediate metro region, any mixed precipitation should go over to plain rain by afternoon. Half an inch to an inch of rain is likely, as highs struggle to get past 40 degrees. Confidence: Medium-high A strong cold front charges into the region Thursday, but there are some questions on its timing — whether it arrives early or late in the day. We’re leaning later, which would allow for temperatures to rise well into the 40s before a chance of showers in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures fall sharply behind the front; lows in the 20s to near 30 downtown. It feels even colder as winds really to start howl in the front’s wake. Friday is probably the coldest of the three because of gusty winds and a biting wind chill (in the 20s much of the day).
