Klobuchar reveals she was treated for breast cancer this year
Good evening, Senate Republicans elected Winona Sen. Jeremy Miller as their new caucus leader Wednesday night. Miller said he'd "work within our caucus as well as with members across the aisle." (Technically Miller doesn't become majority leader until the full Senate votes, but Wednesday's decision was the key one.) Senate Democrats still need to choose their new leader. Amy Klobuchar revealed Thursday morning that she was treated for breast cancer back in February. The third-term Democrat said the cancer was caught early, before it spread, and that a lumpectomy plus radiation therapy appear to have removed the cancer. "Now they tell me that my chances of getting cancer again are the same as any average person," Klobuchar said on Good Morning America. [Read more from The Associated Press] A state judge appeared skeptical Thursday about a parental lawsuit seeking to force a statewide school mask mandate. A ruling will come soon. [Read more from Brian Bakst] President Joe Biden announced new federal rules requiring employers with more than 100 employees to mandate COVID-19 vaccines. He's also requiring vaccinations — with no ability to test out — for federal employees and contractors. Overall, perhaps 100 million Americans could be impacted. The orders are likely to result in litigation. [Read more from The Associated Press] One possible twist to this mandate: While COVID-19 tests have generally been free, routine workplace tests can be charged to the consumer. That means workers who choose to get regular tests instead of getting vaccinated could have to foot the bill for those tests.
