| Tomorrow! Celebrate Juneteenth on the Waterfront |
It's official: Juneteenth has finally been declared a national holiday! Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates the anniversary of Black emancipation in the United States, honored on the anniversary of June 19, 1865, when freedom from slavery was proclaimed in the state of Texas.
Celebrate this momentous holiday tomorrow at the first-ever Juneteenth on the Waterfront at the Ferry Plaza. Join MegaBlack SF, CUESA, the Port of San Francisco, and local Black-owned businesses for a day of fun, community, and delicious, handcrafted food at the Embarcadero Ferry Terminal Plaza (south of the Ferry Building) and Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Entry is free and open to the public, and food will be available for purchase. Food tickets are available for pre-purchase at MegaBlack SF. |

Based in Pescadero, Dede Boies offers fresh chickens and other humane and pastured-raised meats at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on Saturdays. In 2014, Dede started her own pastured-based ranch to humanely raise the healthiest animals possible, while working within the ecosystem to responsibly steward the land. |

Stone Fruit at K&J Orchards
The daughter of Kalayada Ammatya and James Beutel (K&J), Aomboon “Boonie” Deasy has carried on the family legacy in partnership with her husband, Tim, and been a driving force in marketing the farm to Bay Area chefs. K&J Orchards has a long fruit season that begins with the first cherry harvest in spring and culminates in pear and apple harvests in autumn. |

Nucha Empanadas offers various flavors of empanadas, such as vegetarian breakfast, traditional beef, corn and peppers, and more. At 90 years old, the real life Nucha, who founded the business, still offers encouragement and contributes her thoughts on tweaking the recipes, just like any other top chef! |
