For the 90th anniversary of Canadian Geographic, we asked a panel of The Royal Canadian Geographical Society’s Explorers-in-Residence and Honorary Vice-Presidents to give us Canada’s greatest explorers, dead or alive, mariner, mountain climber, polar trekker, anthropologist or astronaut. The only condition? Their picks must have been born in Canada or lived here long enough to qualify for citizenship by today’s standards. So here are those greats, anchors in a list of 90 men and women stretching from the 16th century to today. Browse the list, and let us know what you think on Twitter or in the comments — did we miss anyone? Who would top your list?

Following on the heels of our successful fall speaker series, we’ve lined up another exciting bunch of Can Geo Talks for spring 2020. The fun kicks off Feb. 4 with a panel discussion about Canada’s greatest explorers, featuring RCGS Explorers-in-Residence Adam Shoalts and Johnny Issaluk and moderated by George Kourounis. Then, on Feb. 6, join us for a FREE talk by Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who will likely be the next Canadian to go to space. And, reserve your tickets for our other great speakers, including Alanna Mitchell, Ray Zahab, and John Stackhouse. It all goes down at Canada’s Centre for Geography and Exploration at 50 Sussex Drive in Ottawa. Learn more.
