April 30th, 2024 Dear CHAC Community, Come and celebrate your culture with our new exhibit Celebrating Culture on May 3rd from 5pm-9pm at CHAC @ 40 West (7060 W. 16th Ave. Lakewood, CO). This is a Cinco de Mayo Celebration and Exhibit Opening! There will be a 40 West Art Crawl in the 40 West Arts District, vendors, music, refreshments and more. Cinco de Mayo is a time to celebrate cultural heritage, community and resilience! Cinco de Mayo is the celebrated victory of Mexico over France. It is acknowledged, of course, in Mexico; however, it is not widely celebrated there. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States. It’s a time for us as Chicanos and Mexican Americans to come together to celebrate our cultura, friends, and family. We do this with cookouts, music, cruising, and arte! Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5 because it recognizes the day in 1862 when Mexico’s army defeated France in the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. It’s also known as Battle of Puebla Day.

Esmeralda Patino CHAC Artists
Esmeralda (Esme) The Crafty Artist. Esmeralda (Esme) Patino is a mixed media artist. Esme has been working in the art world for eight years. She is from Denver, Colorado. She is a proud mom of two amazing children. She likes to say that “if it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be the person I am.” Esme is blessed with a husband who supports her in all her endeavors. Esmeralda is the daughter of Mexican immigrants who came to Denver in the 1960, she is the youngest of five children. Esmeralda was raised to be proud of her heritage, and to enjoy the beauty in the world. She has always loved art and grew up admiring local artists. Her educational background is in Early Childhood Education.
Esme artistic background is based in the craft world. Her mom taught her how to crochet at the age of 16 and she has been doing it ever since. She started with crochet, making dolls, hats, and scarves; this evolved into paper craft and other forms of crafting. She likes to mix those elements together to make beautiful works of art. She considers herself a crafty artist because she uses typical craft supplies to make art.
Esmeralda is always on a journey of learning and teaching. And believes that she can learn from every experience and every new person she meets.
