Baltimore boasts biotech, higher ed cred 💉

The Greater Baltimore Committee recently hosted a summit focused on recognizing the region's successes, often in established sectors like life sciences and defense.

 

Baltimore relies on these traditional industries but also works on building bridges between industries, per Lakey Boyd, GBC’s chief economic officer. That'll hopefully attract more outside investment. 

 

“We’re partnering public, private, big and small across our region, and we’re winning — and those wins are about economic growth and shared prosperity,” Boyd said. “So the concept of ‘bold moves’ positions the Baltimore region as a place that not only adapts to change, but drives it.” Continue reading ...

Ecosystem building is more than a buzzword

Part of this effort involves storytelling, per Tammi Thomas, chief development and marketing officer of TEDCO. Leveraging local media outlets is key for entrepreneurs, she said. 

 

Her advice for ecosystem builders? “Go out there with gusto and be the beacon of light for everybody.”

• University of Maryland Global Campus is reintegrating Ventures and AccelerEd, two offices that spun off as independent businesses. The move follows an audit that determined the action was costly and went against typical procedures. [Maryland Matters]
