Europe watches France The EU has had a challenging few days: the United Kingdom gave official notification of its withdrawal; Donald Tusk remains EU Council President in the face of opposition from his home country, Poland, and the Member States agreed on a “Declaration of Rome” to mark 60 years since the founding of the EU: “We will act together, at different paces and intensity where necessary, while moving in the same direction.” So there it is – the two-speed Europe! For now, though, everyone’s attention has turned to the Presidential elections in France. And it is worth noting, in this regard, that Emmanuel Macron is fighting a pro-EU election campaign and actually gaining ground. |

The EU Commission wants to ensure that the energy efficiency of buildings is further increased. The proposed amendment to the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive is intended to remove "cumbersome" provisions and speed up the energy-related renovation of existing buildings. (Answer of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) to a question put by Die Grünen.
