Ambra Martinez

Growing up, I experienced the confusion, insecurity and exclusion associated with being stuck in-between two conflicting cultures. I decided to become a traveler at 14 years old, with nothing but my backpack and some blankets during a very cold winter. I made friends who felt like family, living on the streets of Denver and California for over 6 years. We hopped coal trains and hitchhiked through the deserts to California a few times before my life took a drastic turn for the worst. Addiction took control of my existence when I was 16. I struggled for years to find my balance and spent lots of time cleaning myself up. Today, I have been clean for quite some time, and use art as a way to express myself! My art has been featured in over 20 different galleries, and 50 unique shows. My favorite medium is sculpture, but most of my pieces are Acrylic paintings, graphite drawings or photography.

I focus heavily on human rights, Indigenous culture, Mexican women and children, environmental issues and magnificence, travels through desert landscapes and nature. My favorite photographic subject is cactus, which I am an avid collector of, and bugs! I have been featured in the National Center for Atmospheric Research as chosen by a panel of scientists and artists, I have won various awards for paintings and work closely with Colorado Artists in Recovery helping fellow recovering artist addicts showcase their talents and skills!

CHAC Gallery & Cultural Center was founded in 1978 by a group of visual and performing artists. The organization was established as a place where Chicano/Latino artists were provided with a venue to explore visual and performance art and promote and preserve the Chicano/Latino culture through the expression of the arts.

CHAC is an inclusive community of creatives that are dedicated to preserving, showcasing, educating and reflecting the essence of Chicano/a/x, Latino/a/x and other multicultural/multiracial communities.
