Welcome to 2020
Welcome to the March edition of the City of Cockburn's Champion Clubs newsletter. Since our February newsletter we've had an addition to the City's Recreation Services Team. Claudia Wells joins us at the Recreation Services Support Officer. Claudia has extensive experience in volunteering with sporting clubs so she will bring valuable experience to our team to ensure we can provide the best service sport and recreation clubs within the City's boundaries. We'd love to know what content you'd like in these newsletters, please email us with your feedback as it is you, our clubs, that we want to be proving the right information to. If you're reading this as the President of your Club i encourage you to forward this on to your committee members and encourage them to subscribe to this newsletter. We'll often have content aimed at various members of your committee and we hope that by them receiving this directly from us it will eliminate the need for you to red and forward to relevant people.
In 2018 we invited the community to have their say on our Western Suburbs Sporting Precinct Study. As part of this, there was strong support for a new sporting field to be built in North Coogee. Now...the City wants to know what future features you think should be prioritised for delivery that will best suit the space and as a valued member of the City of Cockburn sporting community, we'd love your help in shaping the future Cockburn Coast Oval in North Coogee. We're asking clubs what's most important to them when it comes to sporting reserves and how they use them. Your feedback will help to shape the delivery of the new sports field and amenities, which will be located near McTaggart Cove in the Shoreline Estate of North Coogee. Feedback closes 27 March 2020 and can be provided on the link below.
Does your club have young sports stars representing their sport at state or national competitions ? The Cockburn Junior Sport Travel Assistance program helps young local athletes by providing financial assistance of up to $400 for travel expenses. Conditions apply which can be found with the online application form on the City of Cockburn website. The next round of applications close 5th June 2020.
The Valuing Children Initiative aims to inspire Australians to value all children, understand that a child’s well-being is the shared responsibility of the entire community and ensure children are at the forefront of our considerations. The vision of the Valuing Children Initiative is the creation of a society in which all children can flourish, have a safe, caring and supportive childhood and maximise their potential. Last year Valuing Children Initiative held a Child Safe Forum, grant funded by the City of Cockburn. As part of the grant funding they have produced 2000 cards with 5 key child safe questions that organisations can ask themselves, and parents can ask organisations. If you would like some copies of this brochure for your organisation, please email the recreation team at the City of Cockburn.
