Welcome to the October edition of Champion Clubs eNews.
Where the winter clubs that made a remarkable comeback after being hit for six by the COVID-19 crisis are now passing the baton to the summer clubs, itching for the starters' whistle so they can get off the blocks.

Building social inclusion in your club
The Social Inclusion Forum promotes the development of inclusive communities across WA and is being held on Wednesday 2nd December to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). Suitable for both professionals and volunteers in community organisations and the public sector, the forum will include practical tips & advice that will inspire you to implement positive change in your club and community.

Does your sporting club need volunteers for the new season?
The Volunteer Resource Centre (VRC) can assist in recruiting new volunteers for your club.

My Community Directory is a free platform to advertise and promote your club to the community. In the twelve months up to September 2020, sport clubs and community clubs/interest groups were in the top three community searches for Cockburn.
You can check to see if your club is listed, and up-to-date, by viewing either the SPORTS CLUBS or the COMMUNITY CLUBS & INTEREST GROUPS listings.

City of Cockburn Capital Works Grants
Eligibility requirements and other conditions apply, so please email Recreation Services for assistance in determining whether the project you are seeking support for is eligible for funding. More information can be found below.

Minor Capital Works Grant (Sporting Clubs)
The Minor Capital Works Grant contributes to minor capital works projects carried out on Council owned property, to assist sporting clubs to undertake timely development and upgrading of infrastructure, with the aim to increase community participation in sport and recreation.
Maximum grant: $4,000 per project

Major Capital Works Grant (Sporting Clubs)
The Major Capital Works Grant contributes to major capital works projects carried out on Council owned property, to assist sporting clubs to plan and implement projects to develop, modify, upgrade, or extend sporting, recreation and community facilities.
Maximum grant: $50,000 per project

City of Cockburn Capital Works Grants

Removal of Davilak Park Tennis Facilities and the
City of Cockburn Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan (2018 – 2033)

The City of Cockburn is preparing to remove the tennis facilities (courts and club house) at Davilak Oval in Hamilton Hill in late 2020/early 2021, as they are no longer fit for purpose and have reached the end of their asset lifecycle.
The tennis facilities have been earmarked for removal since 2018, following the adoption of the Western Suburbs Sporting Precinct Study (WSSPS).
In the coming years, Davilak Oval is expected to receive approximately $7.39 million in upgrades. The proposed upgrades are detailed in the WSSPS and include improvements to parking, club-rooms, and sporting grounds. The future improvements are expected to be delivered in 2024/2025.
The City of Cockburn Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Plan (2018 – 2033) provides strategic direction and guidance in the provision of community, sport and recreation facilities across the City, in line with the significant level of population growth it has experienced and which is expected to continue over the course of the next 10-20 years.
