Dear , Help and a hug This has been an incredible week of work and painting at the apartments. A lot of work has gone into the repair, safety, and aesthetics to breath new life into an old building. There has been a lot accomplished but a lot more left to be done. In the middle of it all, we still get calls from those facing homelessness in our community for help and assistance. When those times come, you simply drop what you’re doing and help the people you can. On one particular day of painting, a mom and daughter came for assistance looking for a place to stay. As you may know, the apartments stay rented out. This is a something we are extremely grateful for but on the other side, it means some people who are in need of a place to stay, won’t be able to stay with us. I sat down with a mother and her, well behaved, five-year-old daughter. I was able to outline a plan to get help for that day and a plan that would help her in the long run. She was grateful as many of them are. I felt that something was still missing. People in need are often people looking for hope. I asked about her relationship with the Lord and her response was very straight forward. She told me that she didn’t really have a relationship with God. I asked if I could share God’s plan of salvation for man and she said she wanted to hear more. I shared with her from the scriptures John 3:16 and other scriptures that reveal Gods plan for man to be saved. That day, she invited Christ into her life. We stood up and just as they were leaving, this well behaved five-year-old child, walked over, didn’t say a word, and grabbed both of my legs and gave me the biggest hug. My heart just melted as I hugged her back. I never said a word to her, she never said a word to me but the mother found hope that day, and I believe that little girl knew something different had happened. Sometimes I get asked, “why do we need a shelter?” It’s moments like these that tell our story for us. This is our why. |

Change for Change As you may remember, September was the month scheduled for our annual golf tournament. With an initial date set, and a rescheduled date, we were still unable to host the tournament due to rain. In place of our annual golf tournament, Murfreesboro Rescue Mission has named November 12, 2024 as a day of giving towards winter shelter operations and much needed repairs on our recently purchased apartment complex. We are asking every business to participate, our area churches to participate in 24 hours of online giving. Our web address is: www.murfreesbororescuemission.org I am asking you to encourage your coworkers and Church members to participate in this fundraiser. Our goal is 14,000 dollars. We already have two donors who have stepped forward with a 7000-dollar match. That means the first 7000 will be matched dollar for dollar. I am asking you to help me spread the word. Sincerest thanks, Ed Grimes Executive Director |
