Hi there,
📚 Chasten Buttigieg is releasing his latest book on May 20. The Advocate's Christopher Wiggins recently spoke to the author, former teacher, and husband of Pete Buttigieg about his latest project — Papa’s Coming Home, a tender, funny, and beautifully illustrated children's book. In this climate of book bans, it's anything but apolitical.
🌈 Lea Salonga, one of the Broadway divas featured on Out’s May/June cover, is a champion for young transgender people — including her 18-year-old son, Nic. “It’s important for me to speak up for kids like my own kid, because trans folks are being erased, as if their existence never happened. But trans folks have been around forever,” she told The Advocate’s sibling publication. You can find Out's epic cover story here.
🏛️ A Montana court has struck down the state’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth. The ban violates the rights to privacy and free speech guaranteed by the Montana Constitution, and it amounts to discrimination based on viewpoint, Judge Jason Marks wrote for the court. How about that for some good news?
Onwards and upwards,
Alex Cooper
