Good morning Valued Subscriber,
Until the eleventh hour, Leanne Castley was expected to support the incumbent opposition leader, Elizabeth Lee. Now the Canberra Liberals' leader and beginning an epic mission to bring the party out decades of opposition, Ms Castley, the "chick from Charny", tells Lucy Bladen why she's not your average politician.
The ACT government has been on a bear hunt. Well, not quite. And in any case, it's proving rather fruitless. A recent and very rare sighting of an endangered koala in Canberra put plans for a new housing development in a spin. But as Brittney Levinson reports, the government's subsequent surveys in the area have hit a wall. More Canberrans are ending up in hospital from accidental poisoning. Curiously, the numbers have skyrocketed in recent years, Lanie Tindale reports. And it has prompted a warning from experts about a number of unsuspecting household substances which can pose a threat.
There is a chance of a severe storm for south-western parts of the ACT. The Bureau of Meteorology warns of heavy rain and damaging winds as a strong cold front moves through the region. There is a very high chance of showers for the territory and a top of 28 degrees forecast. Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your weekend. |
