Good afternoon,

Is that the sun I see or has it bobbed behind a cloud again?

The mixed nature of the weather perfectly reflects a level of indecision today about imposing additional coronavirus restrictions in Preston, where cases have spiked.

A much anticipated announcement at 11am this morning did not materialise - maybe by the time you read this we'll know more - but in meantime it's business as usual while taking as much care as possible as always.

We await further information - please follow our live blog for the latest.

In the news today the soft play businesses facing hard times, as they await permission to reopen by the government.

Plus remarkable pictures after a BMW destroyed a bridge, hurtled into a canal, and was immersed in water after a high speed chase near Preston - yet the occupants escaped and are at large.

In court,  we share heartbreaking statement from the mum of a teenager who lost his life in a double fatal accident - as a lorry driver from Chorley faces sentencing for death by dangerous driving today.

Meanwhile, as we all holiday closer to home, we have shared some inspiration with 16 great places to stay if you are staycationing in Lancashire this summer.

We will keep you updated all day. Enjoy your Friday, the weather is on the up!

Just a little reminder that although bad news makes the headlines, we report far more positive news than negative and always report on the amazing things and people across fantastic Lancashire.

Wishing you a lovely weekend from your Lancashire Post team.
