Mandatory standardized tests have crowded out key elements of a holistic education at the K-12 level. As a result, students are arriving at college with limited creative ability, which makes problem-solving, intellectual work, and other multidisciplinary work more difficult. The Chronicle’s issue brief, “The Creativity Challenge,” examines how colleges can inspire students to bring fresh insights to open-ended challenges, navigate uncertainty with confidence and agility, and develop creative skills that will help them in their academic careers and beyond.
