IoT Edge Software Solution Provides AI for Industrial Systems ADLINK Technology has announced the general release of its ADLINK Edge IoT solution. With no programming necessary, the software enables you to quickly connect previously unconnected operational equipment, sensors and devices. Then, by tapping into native communication protocols, data can be captured and streamed at the edge. From the edge, this data can then be streamed securely between devices, databases and to the cloud, enabling analysis and easy visualization to inform decisions and optimize operations in real time. ADLINK Edge is deployed via the company's Digital Experiments methodology which can include hardware, software and support elements for easy integration with any existing IT and OT system. This provides a secure and cost effective approach to validate business value from IoT and define a roadmap before investing time and resources in a full-scale implementation. CONTINUE READING Compact Arm-Based IoT Protocol Conversion Gateway Has Crypto Chip Advantech has launched a rugged "WISE-710" IoT protocol gateway that runs Linux and its WISE-PaaS/EdgeLink stack on the i.MX6 DualLite and offers a crypto chip, 2x GbE, mini-PCIe, 3x serial/CAN, DIO and optional analog and temperature interfaces. The 100 mm x 70 mm x 36 mm "industrial protocol gateway" runs Ubuntu 16.04 or the optional Yocto 2.1 on the tried-and-true NXP i.MX6 DualLite, which has shipped on earlier Advantech embedded computers such as its UBC-220. The WISE-710 can optionally be loaded with Advantech's WISE-PaaS/EdgeLink protocol-conversion software, which supports more than 200 communication protocols including Modbus, OPC-UA, MQTT and IEC-60870-5-104 "to enable data collection from legacy devices," says Advantech. WISE-PaaS/EdgeLink offers LWM2M client and Node ID technology and supports user-defined data acquisition periods for each input interface, "thereby reducing the volume of data transmitted and stored on the cloud." Bluetooth LE Solar Dev Kit for IoT Taps Nordic Semi's BLE SoC Nordic Semiconductor has announced that PowerFilm, a company specializing in custom solar solutions, employs Nordic's nRF52832 Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) SoC in its "Indoor Solar Development Kit with Nordic BLE" for IoT developers, engineers and hobbyists looking to power electronics by harvesting indoor light energy. Once harvested, the energy is stored in a rechargeable battery or capacitor bank. The development kit simplifies the design process for OEMs incorporating indoor solar energy in Bluetooth LE devices, with applications including smart home, building automation, inventory and retail management, asset tracking and industrial monitoring. In addition to the Nordic SoC, the plug and play kit incorporates an onboard energy harvester/power management IC and indoor solar panels. In operation, the nRF52832 SoC automatically connects to the power when energy is available-enabling Bluetooth LE operation of the solar-powered device-before disconnecting when the stored energy is depleted.
