Good morning and thanks for joining us. Here are some of today's top headlines. Pulling up pipes: The city is embarking on a 10-year plan to get rid of its toxic lead pipes, and the Sewerage & Water Board said Thursday it will begin with roughly 300 water lines leading to schools and daycare centers. Emily Woodruff and Mark Schleifstein have the story. Illegal STR crackdown: Starting next year, short-term rental platforms will have to ensure their listings are legally permitted. The city already has a way of identifying unpermitted listings and makes Airbnb and others take them down, but they usually pop back up anyway. The City Council hopes a new rule will change that. Ben Myers has the details. Burglar shot Uptown: An officer shot and injured a burglar on Prytania Street on Thursday morning, and police say the man is suspected in a rash of gun thefts from Uptown homes. Poet Wolfe and Missy Wilkinson have this report. Thanks for reading. Check back for more news, entertainment and sports from The Times-Picayune. Chad |
