The Civicjobs.ca* Education Award recognizes individuals that are pursuing educational programs that focus on local government education.

Am I eligible?
To be eligible, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary local government specific education program and be employed by a Canadian local government or non-profit organization that supports local government in Canada. Students may be in certificate, undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs; all are eligible.

How do I apply?
Our online application portal will open February 15th. Applicants are required to complete an application and upload both a copy of their employer’s letter of support and a transcript. The application period is February 15th to March 31st. Details on the Civicjobs.ca website https://www.civicjobs.ca/scholarship .

When is the deadline?
Completed applications will be due no later than 4pm on March 31st .

What is the value of the award? The 2024 award will be $1,000, paid direct to the recipient following final selection in June..

Participating communities unanimously agree there is nothing like Communities in Bloom for its collaboration of key stakeholders and citizens that support environmental and economic improvement initiatives. In addition,
Communities in Bloom provides a realistic return on investment that is measurable, predictable and accountable. The CiB program consists of communities receiving information and being evaluated by a jury of trained professionals. The evaluation process views six key criteria of Community Appearance, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation, Tree Management, Landscape and Plant & Floral Displays and is additionally viewed within the sectors of Municipal, Business/Institution, Residential and Community Involvement. Register before March 31 and get started growing your commUnity pride!
Smaller community groups or garden clubs are encouraged to register in the Community Showcase nonevaluated program before August 31.

2024 MIABC Risk Management Conference - Plan to Pivot

The MIABC’s annual Risk Management Conference is held each spring and is open to all staff of MIABC members, partners, First Nation and non-member local governments. The conference provides an overview of the basic tenets of risk management, as well as presentations and workshops on more advanced topics. The conference serves as a platform for gathering and exchanging knowledge, featuring a deliberately diverse agenda covering a wide range of topics, from technical, department-specific information to more universal themes.    Best of all, it provides an excellent networking opportunity for attendees to make connections and socialize with their counterparts from other regions.
 
Conference Pricing
All ticket options include access to two and a half days of in-person sessions, conference materials, breakfasts, coffee breaks, lunches and the welcome reception.
 
Conference and Viva Las Vegas Event:  $475 (Early Bird: $425)

Non-MIABC Member - Conference and Viva Las Vegas Event: $825 (Early Bird: $775)
 
MIABC members can use their available Risk Management Grant funds to pay for registration fee and travel expenses and staff of First Nations governments are eligible to register for the conference at the MIABC member rate!

Attending a CIFAL-certified training ensures access to high-quality, UN-affiliated education that equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to address global challenges and contribute to sustainable development.

Eligibility: Open to students and community members. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have an interest in politics. Preference will be given to members of equity-seeking groups.
