In order to best accommodate municipal employees & others across BC – BCIT is now offering Civil and Public Works courses in an online format.
BCIT’s Civil Technology & Public Works Part-time Studies (PTS) programs and courses provide a BCIT credential in Civil Technology as well as continuing education and professional development opportunities for individuals in various municipal, civil technology and public works fields. Instructional sessions are presented through live interactive web-lectures delivered through an online course portal (BCIT Learning Hub) by industry subject matter experts. Registration is Open! Do you want to make addressing climate change at the local level a career? Check out this British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Community Energy Management program, which is delivered by Community Energy Association’s Director of Capacity Development, Pat Bell. Pat has more than 25 years of experience in sustainable community development and delivers coursework covering renewable energy, finance, transportation, buildings, and how climate action benefits local economies. The program has attracted students from across Canada and you can be part of the next cohort.

UNIVERSITY OF THE FRASER VALLEY  | Civic Governance and Innovation Certificate |
The Civic Governance and Innovation certificate program is designed for current municipal and regional government employees, and others interested in local governance. This program critically examines the role of local political culture in governance priorities and processes, why some good ideas take root while others do not, and ways that learners build on the best evidence available to effect change. Students collaborate across professional roles in order to identify and mold more resilient and effective organizational practices.

Cap U Local Government courses are three credit university courses, which also provide credit towards Board of Examiners Certificates, the CMC (Certified Municipal Clerk) designation and other professional development program requirements.
SPRING 2022 Elective Course Highlight:
Capilano U’s PADM 209 Corporate Administration course is unique in BC and will equip you with the essential knowledge and skills you need to be more effective in your work. Topics include bylaw drafting, applying parliamentary law and meeting rules of order, public consent processes, Freedom of Information requests, elections, records management and more. PADM 209 will be offered online over 8 weeks: January 17 to March 11, 2022. It fulfills the
elective course requirement in the Local Government Administration Certificate program and is a required course for the Local Government Advanced Certificate and Diploma programs. See PADM 209 Brochure for details.
Capilano U’s PADM 210 Management Fundamentals for LG Professionals course provides foundational knowledge and skills related to managing staff, managing work and managing self, to become more effective in your current or future role as a manager in a municipality, regional district or related organization. The instructor for this course is John Leeburn, former CAO, who brings his many years of local government experience and management
knowledge to this highly interactive and exciting course for new, improving and aspiring local government managers. Offered in NORTH VANCOUVER over six days: February 3, 4, 5 and March 10, 11 12, 2022.

There are a number of factors BCRSP measures in their certification process including previous education and work experience, which means some of our students also meet the eligibility requirements for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification. We continue to advise our students to connect with BCRSP to ensure their education choices satisfy the certification requirements.
