Hi John, The man chosen by the Rudd Labor Government to head the NBN Co when it was formed has not held back in criticising the Coalition for what he called "a colossal mistake" when it decided to change the mix of technology for the NBN from one that would be mostly fibre to one in which copper would dominate.
The latest version of the Firefox browser for the Android platform appears to have diverged from its old philosophy of giving users control over the way they use the app, with some kind of iron control being wielded over what extensions one uses. Ever since Vodafone was first to introduce unlimited data capped at 1.5Mbps speeds once the full speed data allocation was used up, followed by Telstra, I've long predicted that a telco would have to increase these capped speeds - and Vodafone is the first to do just that. The Coalition Government's decision to provide fibre connections to about 75% of homes on the NBN, making a total of eight million in all by the end of 2023, has been welcomed by tech experts, but there have been some reservations about what the policy would actually achieve. A ranking of the cyber prowess of 30 nations, published by the Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Centre for Science and International Affairs, appears to be more of a political publication than a technical one, with Israel conspicuously missing from the top 10, and comments within the document clearly indicating its bias. Canada has dropped a hint that it may be next in line to create a media code for digital platforms, with the Liberal Government making mention of this in the annual throne speech delivered by the governor-general.
