Cut the bull and build better teams

Sick of awkward meetings, confusing emails, and crossed wires in your team or group? This free, humour packed workshop will help you communicate with clarity and confidence.

Cut the Bull and Build Better Teams is a practical and engaging session led by comedian, coach and accredited Bullshift facilitator Malcolm Dix. You'll learn how to communicate more effectively, reduce conflict and build better collaboration within your team.

The session will cover how to:

  • Have more open, productive conversations
  • Turn confusion into clarity – even in emails
  • Shift from competing to collaborating
  • Replace sarcasm with honest, respectful dialogue.

Free community meals this May

Everyone deserves a good meal and a welcoming place to connect, and this May you can find both at three free community dinners across Cockburn.

The City of Cockburn proudly supports Cooby Eats, Hami Eats, and Yangebup Eats — monthly events that bring people together over hearty food and friendly conversation. Whether you’re looking for a warm meal or a sense of community, you’re invited to pull up a chair at:

Yangebup Eats – Friday 9 May
Held at the Yangebup Family Centre, this dinner serves up homemade food and friendly vibes. There’s even a sandpit to keep the little ones entertained.

Cooby Eats – Friday 16 May
Join us at the Len Packham Clubrooms in Coolbellup for a community dinner prepared each month by different local groups. Supported by the Coolbellup Family Church.

Hami Eats – Friday 30 May
Head to Memorial Hall in Hamilton Hill for a free, family-friendly meal in a relaxed setting. Brought to life by the team from Hami Helps.

No bookings required. Come as you are and enjoy an evening of connection and care.

Music and healthy ageing

Join U3A Cockburn on Friday 9 May at 1pm at the South Lake Ottey Centre for a fascinating talk by Emeritus Professor Alan Harvey. Discover how music supports brain health, memory and emotional wellbeing as we age.
University of the Third Age is for retired people to share their love for learning within a social network.

Entry is $5 per person and includes afternoon tea.

Tea, treats and mum time!

Join CWA Cockburn for a warm and welcoming community event in honour of Mother’s Day on Saturday 10 May 2025 at the Beeliar Community Centre, 33 Lakefront Avenue. Bring your mum along to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and browse a variety of stalls featuring homemade crafts, baked goods, and preserves. There’ll also be raffles, a door prize, and two sittings to choose from so you can pick the time that suits you best.
