In disappointing news, our popular Coogee Live event scheduled for the 12-13 March has been cancelled due to the evolving COVID-19 situation. The City will announce shortly a series of fun online celebrations in its place to support our stakeholders, partners, local businesses and community.
Join us for a balmy evening of music and entertainment at our family-friendly Community Concert on Saturday 19 February, 7-9.30pm at Victor George Kailis Oval (Dockers training grounds) in Cockburn Central.
This free event is headlined by Fremantle songbird Stella Donnelly, whose March 2019 debut album ‘Beware of the Dogs’ attracted international critical acclaim. Recent Triple J unearthed feature artist, R&B pop Afrobeats singer/songwriter/producer Adrian Dzvuke, will be our support act, appealing to those with a love of music that makes you want to move.

Professional and volunteer wildlife carers, volunteer citizen scientists and Cockburn staff had a hand in reducing the species' mortality rate by protecting nesting females and their eggs from predator attack and vehicle strike during the 2021-22 nesting season. More than 100 eggs salvaged by the team are currently being safely incubated at Murdoch University and we hope to see them hatching in the coming weeks!

Our new $6.7m Treeby Community and Sports Centre is looking good and on track for a mid 2022 opening. The centre is based in the main town centre, on the corner of Torwood Avenue and Clementine Boulevard in Treeby.
Environmentally sustainable design features Not only will it look great once complete, but the building and surrounds incorporate a number of environmentally sustainable design features, an essential factor when designing and building facilities for our City:

Confirmation of what we already knew: the City of Cockburn is home to one of Australia's best beaches. Coogee Beach was recently included in Tourism Australia's Beach Ambassador Brad Farmer's list of Best Australian Beaches for 2022. The ever-popular attraction was one of only two WA beaches to make the list and came in at number 13, praised for its stunning swimming waters, iconic jetty, eco shark barrier, Omeo shipwreck, island views and Indian Ocean sunsets.
Environmental Education for Schools Grant - up to $1K!
Primary, K-12 and secondary schools in Cockburn will soon be able to apply for a funding grant to provide professional environmental and sustainability activities to further student learning in this area. Up to $1,000 is up for grabs. Conditions apply.
The upgrade to Goodchild Park Clubrooms in Hamilton Hill, home of the Phoenix Lacrosse Club, has started! The project will encourage more female participation in sport with new unisex facilities and enable clubs to host larger events with new visitor changerooms, improved storage, and upgrades to the kitchen and clubroom space. And for fitness groups or dog walkers in the area, there will be new toilet facilities that can be accessed externally. Something for everyone! Opening July 2022.
This community project was supported by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
To understand community perceptions, a survey was conducted in late 2021 by an external market research company. Feedback has been compiled and will be presented to Council at the February Ordinary Council Meeting on Thursday 10 February, 2022.

Ordinary Council Meeting for 10 February moved online
Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and exposure sites in and around Cockburn, the City's Ordinary Council Meeting on Thursday 10 February will be held online. The meeting will still take place at 7pm, Thursday 10 February, and while members of the public will not be able to attend the meeting, they will be able to watch a livestream of the meeting online.
For those unable to livestream on their own devices, the meeting will be livestreamed onto a large screen at Spearwood Library.
All Ordinary and Special Council meetings, as well as Audit and Strategic Finance Committee meetings scheduled for February and March 2022, will be closed to the public until further notice, but made available via livestream.
Winners are grinners - 2022 Community Citizen of the Year
Mental health crusader Matt Willson from Black Dog on a Lead Inc. and Yangebup Progress Association President Maggie Zentner were worthy joint overall winners of the City’s 2022 Australia Day Community Citizen of the Year Award.
The annual awards, held on 26 January, are an important way to let individuals and groups that make a difference to our community know their efforts are recognised, valued and vital to Cockburn’s productive, vibrant and healthy culture.
