~Nikki Rowe My husband of fifteen years and I had separated, but we shared joint custody of two finches. I was standing in the local pet store in our Northern California town looking at bamboo nesting houses for them when a vibrant dog collar caught my eye. Our two Shetland Sheepdogs had died two years before, and I longed for another canine companion.
