The day for roster cuts is inching closer. The Saints and the other 31 NFL teams have to trim their rosters down to 53 players by next Tuesday. But columnist Rod Walker isn't waiting around for cut-down day. His 53-man roster projection has some surprises for Saints fans.

The New Orleans Saints practiced indoors on Tuesday and the user-friendly conditions seemed to spark the players during a lively two-hour workout. And there were a slew of highlights, including a pair of big plays by former LSU stars. Beat reporter Luke Johnson recaps all the action in his daily camp observations.
