As Spring finally arrives - with all of its showers, sunny spots and overcast mornings - it's time to take a look at the latest batch of comedy books, Blu-rays, CDs and DVDs available to order and pre-order. There are some real treats this year, spanning current and recent productions, way back to the 1930s. Let's get on with it...

New Products
What We Did On Our Holiday (Blu-ray & DVD)
Rosamund Pike, David Tennant and Billy Connolly star in this family comedy written and directed by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin (creators of Outnumbered). As Doug, his wife Abi, and their three children prepare to travel up to the Scottish Highlands for Doug's father Gordie's birthday, they fail to give their children a list of things that are to be kept secret. A Political Party (DVD)
Featuring a very early role for Oscar winner John Mills alongside Leslie Fuller and Moore Marriott, A Political Party tells the story of a north-country chimney sweep who stands for Parliament and is opposed by a local bigwig. His campaign is imperilled when his artist son, Tony, falls in love with a girl who has reason to hope that the bigwig will be elected. Details
Life's Too Short - The Special (DVD)
After a two year wait, the finale special of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Warwick Davis's sitcom comes to DVD. Having admitted that he exploited his dwarf clients in the past Warwick finally comes good for them before receiving a visit from Willow co-star Val Kilmer, anxious to make a sequel. Details
Still Open All Hours - Series One (DVD)
Well over 6 million people watched each episode of this revived, hit sitcom when it was broadcast on Sunday evenings earlier in the year. Following on from Open All Hours, David Jason returns as Granville Arkwright, now proprietor of his northern corner shop. The full series and original Christmas 2013 special that launched it, are now available in this DVD release. Details
Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror - Series 1, 2 & Special (DVD)
The complete collection of Charlie Brooker's bleak comic drama Black Mirror, Series 1, 2 and the 2014 Christmas special. The episodes are The National Anthem, Fifteen Million Merits, The Entire History Of You, Be Right Back, White Bear, The Waldo Moment, and White Christmas, the latter of which stars Mad Men's Jon Hamm. Eskimo Nell - 40th Anniversary Special Edition (Blu-ray & DVD)
Alongside Come Play With Me and Confessions Of A Window Cleaner, Eskimo Nell takes its place as one of the most celebrated British adult comedies of the 1970s. Directed by Martin Campbell years before he helmed the James Bond movies GoldenEye and Casino Royale, Eskimo Nell is a saucy satire on the low-budget British movie industry. Birds Of A Feather - The Complete ITV Series 2 (DVD)
There were never two more unlikely sisters than working class heroines Sharon (Pauline Quirke) and Tracey (Linda Robson). Along with their friend and lodger, man-eater Dorien Green (Lesley Joseph), they returned earlier this year for a second ITV series - the 12th since the show launched on BBC One way back in 1989. Details - A box set with the previous ITV series is also available.
House Of Fools - Series One (DVD)
From legendary comedy duo Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, this utterly bonkers sitcom series probably needs little introduction! Co-starring Morgana Robinson, Matt Berry and Dan Skinner, the second series is currently on air. Re-live the boys' bizarre adventures from 2014's Series 1 now on DVD. Details
Pride (Blu-ray & DVD)
The hit culture-clash comedy film of 2014. It's 1984 and at the Gay Pride March in London a group of activists decides to raise money to support the families of coal miners, who are on strike. But there is a problem: the miners' union is homophobic and refuses their support. However, the group is not deterred and decide to go straight to the miners themselves... Up The Women - Series 1 & 2 (DVD)
It's 1910 and the Intricate Craft Circle is meeting in Banbury Church Hall. Starring and written by Jessica Hynes, this period comedy is based around a small-town group of suffragists with, much to leader Margaret's frustration, a slightly wavering and confused dedication to the cause. With a fabulous cast, both series of the sitcom are included here. Details
Babylon - The Complete Series (DVD)
Comedy drama starring James Nesbitt. American PR consultant Liz Garvey (Brit Marling) is recruited to the Metropolitan police as the new Director of Communications. Things don't get off to a very good start, however, as she has to deal with her new boss Chief Constable Richard Miller (Nesbitt), her jealous, scheming assistant Finn (Bertie Carvel) and plenty of bureaucracy. Horrible Histories - The Specials (DVD)
Two special episodes from the award-winning CBBC history show. In these instalments the programme looks at the celebration of Valentine's Day throughout the centuries as well as some of the more unusual aspects of the First World War. The episodes are the two 2014 specials, Ridiculous Romance and Frightful First World War. Details
Uncle - Series One (DVD)
Andy (Nick Helm) is a dissolute out-of work musician who forges an unlikely alliance with his 12-year-old nephew Errol after being morally blackmailed into looking after him by his chaotic sister Sam - all on the day Andy was planning to kill himself. The hit sitcom's second series finished earlier this week. There's no news yet of a third, but here's hoping! Details
That Mitchell & Webb Sound - Series 5 (Audio)
The radio sketch series that spawned BBC TV's That Mitchell And Webb Look returns with five brand new episodes. Comedy from the lopsided world of David Mitchell and Robert Webb, with Olivia Colman and James Bachman. Details
Bluestone 42 - Series 2 (DVD)
All six episodes from the second series of the BBC comedy about the members of a British Army bomb disposal unit working in Afghanistan. Although their day-to-day jobs are deadly serious and a world away from life on Civvy Street, Captain Nick Medhurst (Oliver Chris) and the other heroes of Bluestone 42 pass the time trading quick-fire banter. Series 3 continues on Monday. Details
Paddington (Blu-ray & DVD)
Adapted from Michael Bond's beloved books, Paddington follows the comic misadventures of a polite young Peruvian bear who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone at Paddington Station, he begins to realise that city life is not all he had imagined - until he meets the kind Brown family, who offer him a temporary haven. Al Murray: Let's Re-Great Britain (Book)
In Let's re-Great Britain, Al Murray's Pub Landlord sets out his party's vision for the country, and explains how politics actually works. Parliament is a nest of slippery, poisonous vipers and only a bonkers, mental idiot would try to make sense of it. Yet in Let's re-Great Britain, Al Murray, the Pub Landlord, presents his guide to British politics and a vision for a Greater Britain. Details

For Men Only (DVD)
Freddie Horne loves his job working for a trendy women's fashion magazine, but his pretty blonde fiancée is getting jealous. To smooth things over Freddie takes a job with the Puritan Magazine Group, an organisation hell-bent on promoting moral reform and family values. Moone Boy - Series Three (DVD)
It's 1991 and Martin Moone (David Rawle) is a little older and a lot wiser. Well, slightly wiser. Okay, not much wiser at all. But that's probably because the words of wisdom from his imaginary friend are as useless as ever. However that doesn't stop Sean Murphy (Chris O'Dowd) from leading Martin into all sorts of new scrapes and adventures. This is the very latest series of the hit sitcom. Details
Hancock's Half Hour - Series Three (Audio)
Tony Hancock stars with Sid James and Kenneth Williams in the legendary BBC Radio comedy series. Created by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson in 1954, Hancock's Half Hour is unmatched in radio sitcom stakes. It should probably be on the National Curriculum. Details
Keeping Quiet - Visual Comedy in the Age of Sound (Book)
Keeping Quiet is a love-letter to the modern sight-gag on film and television, tracing the history of physical clowning since the advent of sound. Julian Dutton charts the lives and work of all the great comedians who chose to remain silent, from Charlie Chaplin - who was determined to resist the 'talkies' - right through to the slapstick of modern-day performers such as Rowan Atkinson. A Sharp Intake Of Breath - The Complete Series (DVD)
Starring sitcom legends David Jason and Richard Wilson, this sharply scripted series details the multifarious difficulties involved in "Getting Things Done" - as experienced by young married couple Peter and Sheila Barnes. The only certainty is that whatever it is Peter's trying to arrange, it will entail an encounter with an officious jobsworth! Details
The Incredible Adventures Of Professor Branestawm (DVD)
Based on Norman Hunter's children's books comes this comedy special starring Harry Hill as the eponymous mad scientist and inventor, Professor Branestawm, as broadcast over Christmas 2014. Freshly confirmed to return again this year, this May-released DVD will be your chance to relive the fun ahead of a second visit to Great Pagwell. Details
School For S** (DVD)
1969 saucy 'slap 'n tickle' comedy from Pete Walker. Dastardly Giles Wingate (Derek Aylward, Come Play With Me) appears in court for embezzlement of £30,000. His barrister argues that he is actually the real victim, having been swindled of his fortune by nine beautiful ex-wives. The Judge takes pity on Wingate, who decides to open an exclusive finishing school in the English countryside. Details
