The College’s governing Council met on June 16 to receive the audited financial statements and appoint KPMG as the College’s auditor for the coming year. Council also received reports from the Investigations, Registration Appeals, and Audit & Finance Committees, along with a presentation by the Ontario Teachers Federation.

For the first time in its 25-year history, the College’s governing Council is equally balanced between members of the public and members of the profession. Hundreds of people who represented Ontario’s rich linguistic, cultural, and geographical diversity responded to last year’s recruitment effort to fill Council’s 12 seats, as well as positions on committees and rosters. The College’s Annual Meeting of Members (AMM) will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Hosted by Interim Registrar & CEO Chantal Blisle, OCT, and Council Chair Diana Miles, the AMM will provide progress updates on the College’s activities. The meeting will be held online and all College members, as well as members of the public, are welcome to attend. Registration will open on the College website soon and additional information will be available in the next edition of The Standard.

The Ontario College of Teachers Scholarship Program provides direct financial support to teacher candidates who demonstrate a dedication to the highest ideals of teaching. The College offers four scholarships in total, each designed to recognize a unique suite of achievements. For example, the Brian P. McGowan Scholarship for Resilience honours an individual who overcame significant barriers to achieve academic goals in pursuit of a teaching career. Applications for all four scholarships are open until August 31, 2022. More information, including eligibility requirements, can be found on the College website.

As part of our commitment to lifelong learning, the College develops Additional Qualification (AQ) course guidelines and resources that support Ontario Certified Teachers (OCTs) as they progress through their careers. The newly renamed and updated Equitable and Inclusive Schools AQ Guideline was informed by the latest data and in-depth consultations with a diverse group of educators and community stakeholders. This course enables OCTs to develop knowledge, skills and teaching practices to ensure that Ontario learning environments continue to be equitable, inclusive and safe for all students. Learn more.
