The House will vote Thursday on whether to cut $1.1 billion from public media—your representative needs to hear from you now.
Friend,
Last week The White House sent a proposed rescissions package to Congress, which includes a $1.1 billion cut in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), taking back money previously appropriated by Congress.
While Congress has 45 days to consider this, the House of Representatives just cleared the way for a likely vote on the rescissions package bill later this week. It’s critical that you and other supporters of Minnesota Public Radio (MPR)—and public radio in general—take action today and call your members of Congress.
If you’ve already contacted your representatives—thank you! You can continue making your voice heard by using our tool once a day to send messages to Congress, so please keep reaching out in support of the vital services of public media.
If the rescissions package cuts are enacted, they will effectively dismantle the public media system by defunding the CPB, the private, nonprofit corporation that supports 1,300 local public media stations across the country, like MPR, as well as NPR and PBS. Many public media stations that serve smaller, rural, and underserved communities would not survive.
After consideration in the House, the rescissions bill will head to the Senate. It is imperative that Congress hears from public media supporters like you during this critical time period. Please act now.
Thank you for your continued support of MPR and the entire public media system.
Thank you, Duchesne Drew President, Minnesota Public Radio
