Contact tracing and quarantine in the context of the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant: interim guidance

WHO is providing additional interim guidance on contact tracing and quarantine in the context of extremely high levels of circulation of the Omicron variant of concern.

In places where there are surges in cases and essential services are under pressure, quarantine and contact tracing policies may need to be adjusted.

Quarantine can be shortened: for example, to 10 days without a test, and to 7 days with a negative test – provided the person does not develop any symptoms.

Any modification to contact tracing and quarantine policies will increase the risk of onward transmission and should be weighed against health care capacity, population immunity and socioeconomic considerations.
