Good afternoon,
It's not what we wanted to hear on a Monday but it has become clear that there has been a week-on-week surge in Covid cases in the Preston, Chorley and South Ribble areas.
This is the highest increase so far, with Preston the second highest surge in the country.
It's a worrying time yet comes alongside hope with last night's confirmation those aged 70 plus and the clinically vulnerable will now be offered vaccines.
Meanwhile, thousands of eligible people within a 45-minute drive of Blackburn Cathedral will be invited to book a coronavirus vaccine from today.
Understandably, police have been cracking down on those breaching lockdown rules over the weekend, with many fined for travelling unnecessarily including two Preston students who travelled to Liverpool via Yorkshire.
In non-Covid news, a devastating report says more could have been done to save the life of Manchester bombing's youngest victim, Saffie Ruossos from Leyland. Our thoughts are with Saffie's family today.
It's a tough news agenda today but we carry as many stories of positivity as we do breaking and difficult news.
Read  an interview with author and broadcaster Louise Hulland on how she misses Lancashire and how a Lancashire hotel is getting a major upgrade.
Have a safe Monday and I will catch up with you all tomorrow,
Kind regards, Nicola
