Google's new Overviews injects AI into search results

 

AI Overviews will appear above traditional search results when Google's tech decides that its AI-generated response is most helpful

 

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) arrived last year, bringing AI-generated summaries, answers, and the like to search queries. On Tuesday, Google unveiled a revamped version called AI Overviews, Android Authority reported.

NBC described AI Overviews as “a retooled search engine that will frequently favor responses crafted by artificial intelligence over website links.” It means more Google Search users will start seeing conversational, AI-generated summaries at the top of the results page, which could have a big impact on the flow of internet traffic as users click on fewer links.

Google took the wraps off a slew of new AI-powered features on Tuesday, TechRadar reported.

Highlights included Project Astra, which is described as a camera-linked “AI agent” for everyday life, and a turbocharged Google Photos with a neat AI search feature capable of responding to spoken search inquiries both broad and specific.

An upgrade to Google’s NotebookLM note-taking app lets you upload notes on a topic to create a detailed learning guide, while a nifty new Google Lens tool enables inquiries via video and voice. First official trailer lands for Coppola's Megalopolis movie

 

The trailer for the intriguing film took less than 24 hours to rack up a million views on YouTube

 

The initial trailer has dropped for Megalopolis, the first film in 14 years from legendary director Francis Ford Coppola, Polygon reported.

Described as a “Roman epic fable set in an imagined Modern America,” the project is also notable for being decades in development, self-funded to the tune of $120 million, and without a U.S. distributor — though it will premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday.

Microsoft has revealed the Xbox Game Pass May 2024 Wave 2 lineup of games, and it's headlined by Ninja Theory’s Hellblade 2, IGN reported.

The offerings include puzzle adventure game Chants of Sennaar (cloud, console, and PC), which will arrive on May 15. The following day, EA Sports' NHL 24 will be available with Xbox Cloud Gaming via EA Play (Ultimate tier only). 

Also coming via EA Play on May 16 is the single-player, first-person magic shooter Immortals of Aveum (cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S) for PC Game Pass and Ultimate.
