| | | | | Corona Call | | Photography that shows impact - Views from Africa and Europe | | Deadline: 8 August 2020 Applications: here | | | | | | | | | | © Sana Sanaa | | | | Initial Situation The worldwide spread of Covid-19 can be seen as a consequence of the approximately 500-year history of globalisation, which began not least with the circumnavigation of the African continent by European seafarers. Against this backdrop, we focus our attention on the two continents and invite photographers from Africa and Europe to submit their works on the effects of the Corona pandemic. These can be taken from their personal lives or follow an investigative topic. Award 1) 25 shortlisted participants will be exhibited in Berlin (Germany), Lagos (Nigeria), Kigali (Rwanda) and Nairobi (Kenya). Shortlist announcement: 29 August 2020 2) In addition to the exhibitions the photographers of the 10 highest-rated entries will receive an edition or a portfolio of archival fine art prints produced by Artificial Image (Germany). Winner announcement: 10 September 2020 3) European Photography and Oath, two art magazines from Germany and South Africa, will publish a selection of the submitted works in one of their next issues. Theme There are no thematic, stylistic or technical restrictions. The only condition is to deal with the current corona crisis. | | | | | | © Sana Sanaa | | | | About Corona Call is an initiative by Sana Sanaa, a non-profit company located in Nairobi, Kenya, and Berlin, Germany, that has made it its mission to initiate an intercultural dialogue about art. It establishes a network of artists and art lovers from Africa and Europe and organizes artist residencies and talks, workshops, studio visits and exhibitions. Partners CAP Prize – International Prize for Contemporary African Photography is awarded annually since 2012 to five photographers who‘s works were created on the African continent or which engages with an African diaspora. European Photography, the independent art magazine for international contemporary photography, with a worldwide readership in sixty countries, was founded in 1980. The creative challenges of the Corona pandemic are a main focus of the double issue planned for October. Kigali Center for Photography is a contemporary photography space showcase the work of Rwandan and international photographers. It invites international photographers and visual storytellers to get in touch with local photographers with the aim of sharing and exchanging knowledge. The Nlele Institute in Lagos is a Pan-African, autonomous and non-profit art photography organization. It exists as a cultural hub that enhances social cohesion through visual learning processes. Oath Magazine, published bi-annually and based in Cape Town, South Africa, presents to the world a curated view of the sweeping frontier of contemporary African photography. Artificial Image, Berlin, is one of the first companies in the world to produce individually produced digital fine art prints on hand-made paper. Close cooperation with the artist, who can also accompany the entire production process on site, is highly appreciated. AKOIA & CO, based in Nairobi, a creative enterprise producing and curating projects, which merge cinema, visual arts, gaming, and immersive technologies.
