The table was set with a number (table three), cutlery, condiments and glasses for wine. A menu was even provided ... even if it only contained one option. Yes, we recreated the atmosphere of a pub meal in the back garden, completely with gammon, egg and chips. This is what we call fun in lockdown! The point I’m making, really, is that all of us have had to be a little more creative and resourceful in the past 10 weeks in order to keep ourselves amused and to stop us climbing the walls. People have dug vegetable patches, learned how to make banana bread or even taken on the challenge of a new instrument or foreign language. Adversity, it seems, has brought out the very best in us. And we have come to appreciate the small things which make life worth living. The difficult thing will be in maintaining this knowledge when restrictions are fully lifted. We need to keep it close. Some things about lockdown have been a joy to behold. If you would like to contact me, email gillian.parkinson@jpress.co.uk. Until next time, stay safe. Gillian | |
