Was Dominic Cummings acting within the law and with integrity when he made the decision to move his family out of London to Durham when he and his wife started to show symptoms of Covid-19? Were these the actions of a man who was concerned for the welfare of his son.... Or someone who was prepared to flout the lockdown rules which the rest of us were adhering to no matter how difficult our personal circumstances? In the end, this doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that the Prime Minister has given him his full backing. And in the process has given everyone else in the country permission to do likewise if their circumstances demand it. And therein lies the difficulty. Major upheaval like our current lockdown will only work if there is a sense that we are all in this together. That it doesn’t matter who you are, who your friends are, where you work or how much money you have, the rules apply to everyone without exception and unequivocally. Let's hope we can maintain that sense of togetherness and continue to fight this terrible virus. If you would like to contact me, email gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk Until next time, stay safe.
