Are you excited for the Oscars, Reader? |
Tonight’s a big night for Jewish film, with “The Fabelmans,” Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical drama about his Jewish upbringing up for seven awards. Could the film, with its casual inclusion of matzah brei and kugel, repeat its Golden Globe wins? Or could it lose to “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and an interdimensional everything bagel? Our comprehensive coverage of Jewish film and culture is made possible by the support of our donors. Now is a great time to support our pop culture coverage! |
Tonight, we’ll have our eyes on Jay Rosenblatt, whose short documentary “How Do You Measure a Year?” tracks his relationship with his daughter through home movies (I spoke with Rosenblatt, who got the new film’s title from “Rent,” when he was nominated last year.) We also have Jenny Slate’s macaroni-shofar-blowing Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” in our Oscar pool for best animated picture. It’s a busy time to be a Jewish culture writer. Jewish film and culture is thriving, and we strive to bring you the latest recommendations and reviews so you’re never left out of the conversation.
If you’ve seen a great new film, happily binged a new TV show, or discovered a new artist through our coverage, I hope you’ll return the favor by supporting our arts and culture coverage with a donation. |
Good luck with your Oscar ballot tonight! And be sure to check in with the Forward tomorrow for our comprehensive coverage on all the Jewish stories connected to Hollywood’s biggest night. |
