| | Friday, December 17, 2021 | With so much uncertainty around the NFL right now, it was nice to have some players going Thursday to lock in some points. And, unless you had Mike Williams active, you locked in some big points in last night's Chargers-Chiefs game. | Travis Kelce had the 12th-best PPR game by a tight end ever and Tyreek Hill has 148 yards and a touchdown, which led to a three-TD game from Patrick Mahomes; On the Chargers side, Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler, and Keenan Allen all came through for you as well. It was nice to see, especially for the Chiefs. | Right now, those locked in points are just about all we can say about Week 15 with any certainty. There is just so much right now that is contingent on things we just don't and can't know. That'll happen when over 120 players (and counting) have tested positive for COVID, in addition to our normal full injury reports. | Week 15 lineup decisions are going to come down to the wire because we literally don't know who is playing right now. What we can do is give you all the information we have now and point you in the direction you need to be in heading into the weekend. And to complicate matters, we have two Saturday games this week, with the Browns hosting the Raiders at 4:30 PM EST followed by the Patriots at the Colts at 8:15. | We'll try to send out a newsletter Saturday afternoon with all of the updates we have, and we'll have our normal newsletter Sunday morning with the injury updates and rankings to help set your lineup. In today's newsletter, I've tried to put together everything you need to know for every game. At least, as things stand now. | And you'll want to make sure you bookmark all of our Week 15 content, because we'll be updating that all weekend until Sunday's kickoff, plus the CBS Sports NFL team's COVID-19 tracker will keep you up to date on all of the news on that front: | Week 15 Start 'Em & Sit 'Em: QB | RB | WRStarts and Sits, Sleepers and BustsCheat Sheets: PPR | Non-PPRWeek 15 Position Previews: QB | RB | WR | TE My Week 15 Rankings: Flex Top 150 | QB | RB | WR | TE | | | 🔍Week 15 Game Previews | There's just so much unsettled right now around the NFL, and with two games on Saturday, it's even harder to manage this week. Here's all of the COVID positives, all of the injury updates, and everything else I think you need to know for each game on the schedule. | | All odds are via Caesars Sportsbook. | | Raiders at Browns | Saturday, 4:30 p.m. ETLine: Raiders -3.5; 37 O/U Implied totals: Raiders 20.25-Browns 16.75COVID list -- Browns: S Ronnie Harrison (Added Dec. 16), QB Baker Mayfield (Dec. 15), CB Troy Hill (Dec. 15), S John Johnson III (Dec. 15), DT Malik McDowell (Dec. 15), DE Ifeadi Odenigbo (Dec. 15), TE Austin Hooper (Dec. 14), WR Jarvis Landry (Dec. 14), DE Takkarist McKinley (Dec. 14), G Wyatt Teller (Dec. 14), T Jedrick Wills (Dec. 14), P Jamie Gillan (Dec. 9), LB Anthony Walker (Dec. 9); Raiders: NoneInjuries: Kareem Hunt (ankle) -- Out. Nick Chubb will get a ton of touches, and D'Ernest Johnson should see some opportunities as the No. 2 RB. He's a desperation play at this point, however ... Darren Waller (knee/back) -- Waller is out for the third straight game, and Foster Moreau doesn't have an injury designation, so he'll start again. He has just four catches for 47 yards in two games without Waller, but he's an intriguing low-end starting option given the Browns expected absences. What you need to know: The line opened with the Browns favored by 5.5, but they're down to their third-string QB, Nick Mullens, right now, while missing multiple starting offensive linemen and their top tight end and wide receivers. And most of their secondary starters. They could all be cleared to play by Saturday under the new protocols, but that seems pretty unlikely. Which makes Hunter Renfrow an especially solid play -- he's a borderline No. 1 WR for this week. Nick Chubb should get about as much work as he can handle for the Browns, and don't be surprised if D'Ernest Johnson gets involved. Donovan Peoples-Jones and Rashard Higgins should be more involved in the offense with Landry out, but with Mullens in at QB, it'll be hard to trust them. David Njoku is a solid streaming TE. | Patriots at Colts | Saturday, 8:15 p.m. ETLine: Colts -2.5; 45.5 O/U Implied totals: Colts 24-Patriots 21.5Covid list -- Colts: LB Zaire Franklin (Dec. 13); Patriots: TE Dalton Keene (Dec. 13), RB J.J. Taylor (Nov. 29) Injuries: Damien Harris (hamstring) -- Harris was limited throughout the week and is officially questionable, and with this being the Patriots, that really doesn't tell us anything at all, unfortunately. It's probably best to just avoid Harris, because he'll be splitting work with Rhamondre Stevenson , but if Harris is out, Stevenson is probably a top-15 back. What you need to know: These teams have, so far, managed to avoid any serious outbreaks, thankfully. And there aren't really many moving pieces with these offenses either -- things flow through their running backs, and the passing games have limited options. Michael Pittman is a high-end No. 3 WR for me, while Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Henry are just fringe starters. | Titans at Steelers | Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ETLine: PICK; 43 O/UImplied totals: Titans 21.5-Steelers 21.5COVID list -- Steelers: DT Montavius Adams (Dec. 15; Titans: NoneInjuries: There are no Fantasy relevant injuries for this game. What you need to know: This is one of the rare games that isn't being affected by COVID so far, and there aren't many injuries we're worried about. That just leaves us with these teams as they are, and there aren't many decisions you have to make. Start Najee Harris and Diontae Johnson, while Julio Jones, D'Onta Foreman, Pat Freiermuth and Chase Claypool are all decent options who fall short of must-start. Foreman and Claypool are the highest ranked for me if you need a flex. | Texans at Jaguars | Sunday, 1 p.m. ETLine: Jaguars -4.5; 39.5 O/U Implied totals: Jaguars 22-Texans 17.5COVID list -- Texans: DB Terrence Brooks (Dec. 16), DB Terrance Mitchell (Dec. 16), DB A.J. Moore (Dec. 15), DL DeMarcus Walker (Dec. 15), LB Christian Kirksey (Dec. 15), LB Kamu Grugier-Hill (Dec. 13); Jaguars: NoneInjuries: Rex Burkhead (hip/quad) -- Burkhead was upgraded from did not practice to limited Thursday, a good sign for his chances of playing. However, even against a good matchup, this backfield is too muddled to view him as much more than a desperation play. Royce Freeman and David Johnson will get their work in too ... Carlos Hyde (concussion) -- Hyde has yet to practice this week so it looks like he'll be out. James Robinson didn't practice Thursday, but he's played through this injury for weeks, so we'll expect him to do it again here. What you need to know: When the Jaguars fired Urban Meyer, the line moved a couple of points in their direction. That's how dysfunctional the situation in Jacksonville was. We're hoping that getting him out of the building will spark something in this team, but I'm less convinced that this offense is going to suddenly turn things around than I am that they'll at least start to act rationally. That should mean a more consistent role for Robinson, who only sporadically got the kind of workload he deserves under Meyer. With Hyde likely out, Robinson should be in line for a significant role, and the upside against this matchup is huge. It also wouldn't surprise me if Trevor Lawrence had a good game, but unless I'm playing in a two-QB league, he's not worth the risk. On the Texans side, Brandin Cooks is probably the only player worth starting even against this matchup. | Cowboys at Giants | Sunday, 1 p.m. ETLine: Cowboys-10.5; 44.5 O/UImplied totals: Cowboys 27.5-Giants 17COVID list -- Giants: CB Adoree' Jackson (Dec. 16), S Xavier McKinney (Dec. 15), CB Aaron Robinson (Dec. 15), LB Cam Brown (Dec. 15), LB Oshane Ximines (Dec. 15), WR John Ross (Dec. 15), WR Kadarius Toney (Dec. 13), OL Wes Martin (Dec. 6); Cowboys: WR Cedrick Wilson (Dec. 13) Injuries: Saquon Barkley (ankle) -- Barkley was upgraded to a limited practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's session, so it seems like he'll be fine come Sunday ... Daniel Jones (neck) -- Jones is still waiting to be cleared for contact. He almost certainly isn't playing this week ... Tony Pollard (foot) -- Pollard got in a limited practice Thursday, his most involvement in his past two weeks. That's a good sign for his chances of playing, though I would expect him to have a pretty limited role and possibly be less effective than normal even if he does play. What you need to know: The Giants have a pretty extensive outbreak, but the Cowboys have always been heavy favorites in this one. That should be good news for Ezekiel Elliott, who said he feels better than he has in weeks earlier. His role is too valuable for me to sit, but I know I'm more optimistic than my colleagues. | Jets at Dolphins | Sunday, 1 p.m. ETLine: Dolphins -9.5; 41 O/UImplied totals: Dolphins 25.25-Jets 15.75COVID list -- Dolphins: WR Jaylen Waddle (Dec. 16), RB Phillip Lindsay (Dec. 13), S Jevon Holland (Dec. 13), RB Salvon Ahmed (Dec. 11), RB Myles Gaskin (Dec. 10); Jets: LB Hamsah Nasirildeen (Dec. 16), WR Justin Hardee (Dec. 13), WR Jeff Smith (Dec. 10), QB Mike White (Nov. 23)Injuries: Tevin Coleman (concussion) -- Coleman has practiced in full both days this week and looks like he'll be back. However, Michael Carter is also expected back from IR, and he was playing like a top-20 RB before his injury. I expect he'll be the lead back here, and the only running back on the Jets you'll want to use. He might be the only player on the Jets you want to use at this point. What you need to know: While there's obviously a chance for them to get cleared, the Dolphins look like they're going to be very shorthanded on offense. Frankly, we just don't have any idea what their running back situation is going to look like, though the fact that they haven't signed any additional running backs seems like a sign that they believe at least one of those backs is going to play. If not, Duke Johnson might be Miami's lead back -- and with this kind of matchup and Johnson's pass-catching abilities, he could actually be a viable starter this week. Malcolm Brown may also be activated from IR for this game after he returned to practice Wednesday, and he might be a viable low-end starter too. And, if Waddle is out, DeVante Parker moves squarely into the WR2 range, and toward the higher end as the likely No. 1 target against a great matchup. Mike Gesicki is also a solid TE1. | Washington at Eagles | Sunday, 1 p.m. ETLine: Eagles -9.5; 44 O/UImplied totals: Chiefs 28.75-Raiders 19.25 COVID list -- Eagles: WR Quez Watkins (Dec. 13); Washington: S Kam Curl (Dec. 16), C Keith Ismael (Dec. 16), C Tyler Larsen (Dec. 16), CB Troy Apke (Dec. 15), QB Kyle Allen (Dec. 15), DT Matt Ioannidis (Dec. 15), WR Cam Sims (Dec. 15), LB Milo Eifler (Dec. 15), S Darrick Forrest (Dec. 15), OT Cornelius Lucas (Dec. 15), TE Sammis Reyes (Dec. 15), DB Kendall Fuller (Dec. 14), DT Tim Settle (Dec. 14), DT Jonathan Allen (Dec. 13), DE Casey Toohill (Dec. 13), LB David Mayo (Dec. 13), DE James Smith-Williams (Dec. 11), LB Khaleke Hudson (Dec. 10), DE Montez Sweat (Dec. 8)Injuries: Jalen Hurts (ankle) -- Hurts has a high-ankle sprain and has been limited in each of the first two practices coming out of the bye. The expectation is still that he's going to play, but it's fair to wonder how effective he'll be if the ankle remains an issue ... Miles Sanders (ankle) -- Sanders has been limited in each of the first two practices this week, so we don't really know what his chances of playing are or whether he'll be limited. Jordan Howard also may come off IR this week, so the Eagles backfield is kind of a mess right now. Hopefully we've got some clarity come Sunday, because Sanders could be a must-start RB if he's good to go ... Terry McLaurin (concussion) -- McLaurin was upgraded to limited in Thursday's practice, a good sign for his chances of returning. He'll have to clear the concussion protocol before Sunday's game, but it looks like he's on track to do so ... J.D. McKissic (concussion) -- McKissic still hasn't practiced since suffering the concussion in Week 12. I'm not expecting him to play at this point. What you need to know: Washington has the most extensive outbreak of any team, with 19 players on the COVID list, and only three of them were added before this week. That means there is the potential for further spread, and it also means those players have had less time to get past the illness. They've still got a lot to play for, but this has the feeling of one of those games that a team just tries to get through in one piece. The Eagles, with their run-heavy approach, will probably be happy to play a slow, low-scoring game if it comes to that. | Cardinals at Lions | Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ETLine: Cardinals -12.5; 47.5 O/UImplied totals: Cardinals 30-Lions 17.5COVID list -- Lions: C Rodney Hudson (Dec. 16); Lions: CB Mark Gilbert (Dec. 11), LB Tavante Beckett (Dec. 11), CB Ifeatu Melifonwu (Dec. 11), RB Jamaal Williams (Dec. 10), CB Tracy Walker (Dec. 10), DB Bobby Price (Dec. 9)Injuries: DeAndre Hopkins (knee) -- Hopkins is set to have surgery to repair a torn MCL, ending his regular season and putting his availability for the start of the playoffs very much in question ... T.J. Hockenson (hand) -- Hockenson is also set for season-ending surgery, so we won't see him again until 2022 ... D'Andre Swift (shoulder) -- Swift still hasn't practiced this week, so it looks extremely unlikely he'll be able to play this week ... James Conner (ankle) -- Conner was a non-participant in practice Thursday, putting his chances of playing as a seeming long shot. We do expect Chase Edmonds to be activated from the IR this week, and he could be a top-15 RB if Conner doesn't play ... Josh Reynolds (thigh) -- Reynolds was added to the injury report Thursday after he was limited by his injury. It's hard to know exactly what that is likely to mean for his chances to play, however if he's out, that would make Amon-Ra St. Brown an even better starting option. Still a WR3, but a solid option for PPR. What you need to know: Most of the Lions COVID positives came last week, so they probably have a better chance than most teams of having their squad at something like full strength. If Williams does play, he'll be in the RB2 discussion, though the fact that he barely played on passing downs in his last game was pretty disheartening. Given the matchup, he's more of a fringe RB2 than a must-start even if he plays. If he doesn't, Craig Reynolds is probably the best option, but it's hard to trust any of the backs here. We'll also get our first chance to see what the Cardinals offense looks like with DeAndre Hopkins out and Kyler Murray active, which makes it tough to know exactly what to expect. Zach Ertz is a viable starting TE, and Christian Kirk and A.J. Green are more like low-end WR3s with upside. | Panthers at Bills | Sunday, 1:00 p.m. ETLine: Bills -10.5; 44.5 O/UImplied totals: Bills 27.5-Panthers 17COVID list -- Bills: LB Tyrel Dodson (Dec. 13); Panthers: NoneInjuries: Josh Allen (foot) -- Allen has been limited both days, but at this point we're expecting him to play ... Emmanuel Sanders (knee) -- Sanders has been out of practice each day this week and seems unlikely to play ... D.J. Moore (hamstring) -- Moore has been limited in each day of practice so far, but he is expected to play Sunday. It's tough to trust him against a matchup like this, given the Panthers QB issues, but it's worth noting that the Bills may not be quite as tough without Tre'Davious White. Moore is in the low-end WR2 range for me, assuming he plays. What you need to know: COVID isn't the concern in this one, injuries are. For the Bills, at least, because there's concern that Allen may be limited due to his foot injury, and his rushing production is such a key to him being an elite Fantasy option. However, he's still a good enough passer that I wouldn't be looking to sit him. In fact, he's still my No. 1 QB for the week! And I think Gabriel Davis could be a big part of that with Sanders out. He's been an efficient role player in this offense both seasons of his career, and figures to play nearly a full snap share this week; given his big-play abilities and red-zone prowess, he could be in for a big week. On the Panthers side, Cam Newton is still going to start, but it sounds like PJ Walker will still factor into the game plan, especially if Newton struggles again. That makes it next to impossible to trust Newton, at least for me. | Bengals at Broncos | Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ETLine: Broncos -2.5; 44 O/UImplied totals: Broncos 23.25-Bengals 20.75COVID list -- Broncos: OLB Malik Reed (Dec. 11), RB Mike Boone (Dec. 10), DB P.J. Locke (Dec. 10); Bengals: CB Chidobe Awuzie (Dec. 16), LB Clay Johnston (Dec. 13) Injuries: Javonte Williams (knee) -- Williams was downgraded to a DNP Thursday, which isn't a great sign, though Vic Fangio did say he expects Williams to play. Friday will be telling, but if Williams can't go, Melvin Gordon would be a top -15 RB, if not higher. For what it's worth, Gordon was also limited Wednesday and Thursday with a thumb and hip injury, though it's not necessarily expected to be an issue. What you need to know: These teams are pretty straight forward -- the Broncos are going to run the ball as much as they can, so it'll be incumbent on the Bengals offense to force them out of their game plan. They are certainly capable of doing that quickly, but the Bengals are also perfectly happy to lean on the run if they can. That leaves the possibility for a disappointing low-scoring game here, though that wouldn't scare me off Ja'Marr Chase or Tee Higgins at this point. Both Broncos running backs are worth using if they are active -- and if one of them is out, the other is a borderline-elite play. | Falcons at 49ers | Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ETLine: 49ers -9.5; 46.5 O/UImplied totals: 49ers 28-Falcons 18.5COVID list -- 49ers: None; Falcons: LB Emmanuel Ellerbee (Dec. 13), LB Quinton Bell (Dec. 13), CB Cornell Armstrong (Dec. 13) Injuries: Elijah Mitchell (knee/concussion) -- It's still not clear if the knee or the concussion is the bigger issue for Mitchell, which does make it pretty tough to know what his chances of playing truly are. However, he's missed both days of practice so far, so you have to think they're pretty slim at this point .. George Kittle (knee) -- Kittle was upgraded to a limited practice Thursday after sitting Wednesday's session out, so that's a good sign. We never got any indication that this was a serious issue, so Kittle should be good to go for Sunday. What you need to know: The 49ers offense has been primarily running through Kittle of late, with Brandon Aiyuk taking on a bigger passing game role while Deebo Samuel has seen his role in the passing game decrease. I expect that to continue, especially if Mitchell remains out. I will say that I think Samuel's passing game role is still more prominent than some might think at this point; despite having just one target last week, he ran nearly every route, so that seems like a fluke. He's still a must-start WR for me. On the Falcons side, Cordarrelle Patterson, Russell Gage, and Kyle Pitts are the only starting-caliber options here, and I still think there's room for Pitts to have a big breakout down the stretch. I'm not sitting someone with his upside. | Seahawks at Rams | Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ETLine: Seahawks -5.5; 45.5 O/UImplied totals: Seahawks 25.5-Rams 20COVID list -- Seahawks: LB Justin Hollins (Dec. 15), TE Johnny Mundt (Dec. 15), TE Jared Pinkney (Dec. 15), WR Odell Beckham Jr. (Dec. 14), DB Terrell Burgess (Dec. 14), TE Brycen Hopkins (Dec. 14), DB Jordan Fuller (Dec. 14), DB Juju Hughes (Dec. 14), T Alaric Jackson (Dec. 14), CB Jalen Ramsey (Dec. 13), T Rob Havenstein (Dec. 13), DB Dont'e Deayon (Dec. 13), RB Darrell Henderson (Dec. 11); Seahawks: WR Tyler Lockett (Dec. 16), RB Alex Collins (Dec. 16)Injuries: DK Metcalf (foot./back) -- Metcalf hasn't practiced yet this week, which is more than a little bit concerning given Lockett's likely absence. He's missed practice routinely during the season due to the foot issue but has always played, so it's not clear if the new back issue really might keep him out. That would be a shame, because he would be the clear No. 1 while facing what is likely to be a short-handed Rams defense -- potentially with no Jalen Ramsey. What you need to know: This line swung to the Seahawks in a big way after the Rams outbreak, and obviously that makes a lot of sense. However, the Rams offense should still be quite potent, so it'll be up to Russell Wilson to keep the Seahawks offense humming without three of their top four wide receivers -- and potentially all four. If Metcalf plays, he's a top-12 WR despite his recent struggles, and Rashaad Penny is a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3. Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp are must-starts, Van Jefferson isn't far off, and Sony Michel would continue to be one if Henderson isn't able to return. If Henderson returns, that'll make it tough to know what to expect, so I'd view Michel as more of an RB2 in the lower range, with both significant upside and plenty of risk. | Packers at Ravens | Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ETLine: Packers -5.5; 43.5 O/UImplied totals: Packers 24.5-Ravens 19COVID list -- Ravens: S Chuck Clark (Dec. 16), C Trystan Colon (Dec. 14); Packers: DL Kenny Clark (Dec. 16)Injuries: Lamar Jackson (ankle) -- Jackson is legitimately at risk of missing this week's game after missing both Wednesday and Thursday practices. There's still a chance he'll be able to play, but at this point you should make sure you have an alternative ready to go. Tyler Huntley would start if Jackson is out, and while he'd be an intriguing option in a two-QB league, you probably want to avoid him in standard leagues ... Marquise Brown (illness) -- Brown was held out of Thursday's practice with this illness, so let's hope this is just a minor thing. Keep an eye out for Friday, because Brown would still be a viable start as long as Jackson plays ... Aaron Jones (knee) -- Jones being downgraded to a DNP after being limited Wednesday is a bad sign. Whether it means he isn't going to play remains to be seen, but you've got to at least consider the possibility ... Aaron Rodgers (toe) -- Rodgers is going to play through the pain with his fractured toe, and it hasn't slowed him down yet. Why would this week be any different? What you need to know: This is one of those games where there are still just so many moving parts that it's hard to say anything at this point in the week. Jackson's status looms large, but so does Jones', and it's hard to have too many answers about these offenses until we know who is playing. But I can say you should start Davante Adams. So there's that. | Saints at Buccaneers | Sunday, 8:20 p.m. ETLine: Buccaneers 11; 46.5 O/UImplied totals: Buccaneers 28.75-Saints 17.75COVID list -- Buccaneers: None; Saints: RB Mark Ingram (Dec. 8)Injuries: Leonard Fournette (ankle) -- Fournette has sat out both Wednesday and Thursday's practice sessions, so there seems to be some real risk here. With Giovani Bernard on IR, Ronald Jones would be a top-15 RB even against a tough matchup. What you need to know: These are two of the best rush defenses in the league, but that's a much bigger issue for the Saints, whose offense is much more predicated on being able to run the ball effectively. They should still be able to move the ball thanks to Taysom Hill 's rushing ability, though he's a tough one to figure out as a starter, because he's been awfully reliant on big plays late in games -- if not for two long touchdowns in the final minutes, Hill wouldn't have topped 20 points in either start. The Saints have had Tom Brady's number since he joined the Buccaneers, but there's no way you're sitting him, Mike Evans, or Chris Godwin at this point. | Vikings at Bears | Monday, 8:15 p.m. ETLine: Vikings -5.5; 44 O/UImplied totals: Vikings 24.75-Bears 19.25COVID list -- Bears: TE Jesse James (Dec. 16), LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe (Dec. 16), WR Allen Robinson II (Dec. 16), DB Eddie Jackson (Dec. 16), RB Ryan Nall (Dec. 16), OL Larry Borom (Dec. 15), NT Eddie Goldman (Dec. 14), DB Artie Burns (Dec. 14), DE Mario Edwards (Dec. 13), OL Elijah Wilkinson (Nov. 26); Vikings: WR Dede Westbrook (Dec. 14), RB Alexander Mattison (Dec. 13), WR Dan Chisena (Dec. 13) Injuries: David Montgomery/Cole Kmet/Jimmy Graham/Jakeem Grant (illness) -- Given the outbreak going around the Bears facilities, hopefully this isn't anything to worry about, but obviously we'll keep an eye on it Friday ... Adam Thielen (shoulder) -- Thielen didn't practice Thursday, and it seems like he's probably a long shot to play unless he can get out there Friday. What you need to know: Given the Bears' many COVID absences and now undefined illnesses, there are too many moving pieces here to really say what to expect. If Montgomery is out, Khalil Herbert will likely be the team's lead back and would be an RB2 for this one. If Thielen is out, K.J. Osborn looks like a solid WR3. | | | | | Jerry Colangelo Classic on CBS | | NFL on CBS | On Saturday, watch the Jerry Colangelo Classic, featuring #25 Texas Tech taking on #5 Gonzaga!
