This week, we celebrated the first anniversary of our innovation arm, Cancer Research Horizons – and what a year it’s been.
Cancer Research Horizons unites our drug discovery labs, tech platforms, biology network and commercial activities within a single organisation to advance the best research and cutting-edge approaches towards novel therapeutic innovation programmes, commercial partnerships and clinical development.
We also set up Cancer Research Horizons to help researchers along their translational journey from early drug discovery to clinical or commercial application, by providing support and direction with some of the trickier aspects, such as legal affairs, business development and sourcing financing.
Our first year saw many of you participating in our entrepreneurial programmes to acquire the key skills and receive bespoke advice to maximise the potential of your research and connect with other scientific entrepreneurs. I’m pleased to share that our newest programmes, Oncostars and Oncology Development Programme 2, are now open for applications – read on for more information.

ONE MONTH TO GO UNTIL OUR RADIATION RESEARCH CONFERENCE If you’re interested in translational radiobiology, join us in Glasgow in June to hear from Charlotte Coles (University of Cambridge) and Graeme Hewitt (King's College London), who will chair a session on how radiation biology is informing the design of radiotherapy clinical trials. Navita Somaiah (The Institute of Cancer Research), Chris Jones (University of Cambridge), Ester Hammond (University of Oxford) and Anthony Chalmers (University of Glasgow) will present recent findings, followed by a debate-provoking discussion.
Our three-day event, run in partnership with the Association for Radiation Research, is packed with opportunities to explore some of the biggest and most interesting challenges in radiotherapy.

If you’re an early career researcher, you’ll have the chance to give a proffered talk alongside expert researchers.
