CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEWEST GRANT AWARDEES The latest grant awardees selected by our Early Detection and Diagnosis Research Committee in the May funding round will be working on some really exciting studies, including deciphering the role of germline variants in RNA-helicases, developing a nanosensor to detect breast cancer-specific circulating microRNA and generating a candidate list of genes susceptible to endometrial cancer.  CAR T-CELL ENGAGER RECEIVES MHRA CLINICAL TRIAL AUTHORISATION Our Centre for Drug Development is sponsoring and conducting the phase 1/2 clinical trial of Aleta Biotherapeutics ALETA-001 to treat patients with B-cell malignancies who are relapsed or refractory to CD19 CAR T-cell therapy.
ALETA-001 increases CD19 protein density by binding to CD20 antigens on cancer cells, increasing the effectiveness of CD19-directed CAR T-cell therapies. It is hoped ALETA-001 will address the treatment gap for people with blood cancers. |

THE TUMOUR METABOLOME IN COLORECTAL CANCER Johan Vande Voorde, Owen Sansom and colleagues from the Cancer Grand Challenges Rosetta team provide preclinical and clinical evidence that metabolic profiling can be used to stratify tissues according to their underlying mutations in colorectal cancer.
The new research in Nature Metabolism, employed a range of technologies including rapid evaporative ionising mass spectrometry, mass spectrometry imaging and traditional liquid chromatography mass spectrometry to analyse mouse models of colorectal cancer and patient samples.
They revealed that various combinations of common genetic alterations in colorectal cancer perturb intestinal epithelial metabolism. By studying these specific changes in the metabolome, the team was able to accurately stratify tissues and they discovered a new potential therapeutic target adenosylhomocysteinase. |

|  RESULTS PUBLISHED ON INVOLVING THE PUBLIC IN DATA RESEARCH The Public Engagement in Data Research Initiative (aka PEDRI) have published their findings from a survey seeking to find out what kind of support would be most useful for public and patient engagement and involvement in data research.
Members of the public expressed their desire for more jargon-free, detailed and interactive information, whereas researchers and PIE professionals highlighted their need for more supportive resources and standardised descriptions of data and terminology.
