| | Congratulations to our Cancer Research UK Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence, whose funding has been renewed for the next five years, recognising its leadership in discovery, translational and clinical research into lung cancer. The centre of excellence was established in 2014 and is co-directed by Caroline Dive and Charles Swanton in Manchester and UCL respectively. It was set up to build capacity in UK lung cancer research and train the next generation of researchers. The next five years of funding will be supported by ScottishPower, who are committing up to £4m to the centre. ScottishPower is a long-term supporter of Cancer Research UK, with a particular interest in lung cancer research. It previously supported the TOPICAL study which revealed key discoveries about how air pollution can cause lung cancer. |

Translating discovery to impact: new entrepreneurial deep dive podcast series |
| Are you curious about how innovative research moves from the lab to real-world impact? The latest series of our Cancer Research Matters podcast is here to guide you through that journey. Cancer Research Horizons joins us to take a deep dive into the world of research translation—from the first sparks of an idea to start-ups, licensing and beyond. In the first episode Simon Boulton, Tony Hickson, Faith Howard, Tommy Rennison and Phil Berry discuss how to know when your findings are ready to be translated into real-world interventions, why academic researchers should pursue entrepreneurship and what support is out there if that’s the route you take. Tune in to discover how those first steps can lead to big things. |

Equality, diversity and inclusion at Cancer Research UK |
| We published our equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategy this week, which plays an important part in helping us achieve our vision of a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. This refreshed five-year strategy builds on our existing priorities of addressing cancer inequalities, research, our people, leadership and engagement. In the next five years, we want to see our actions and those of our partners working towards a more diverse and inclusive cancer research landscape. By then, we’ll be funding more research that addresses cancer inequalities, and the people who contribute to our research will be from more diverse backgrounds and bring a wider range of lived experiences. Next year we’ll publish our more detailed EDI in research strategy. |
