This time last year, all eyes were on New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo — and the nation liked what it saw. Cuomo was seen as a bold decisive leader in comparison to former President Donald Trump, in terms of both tone and facts delivered. Now, Cuomo is facing calls for his resignation in the face of numerous accusations from women alleging behavior ranging from uncomfortable interactions to sexual harassment, and for concealing the real number of deaths in New York nursing homes.

It's the result of years of leadership based on fear, Hayes Brown writes, with a large portion of that owed to the traits that Cuomo and Trump actually share. In refusing to resign, Cuomo is likely assuming New Yorkers will remember the man on their television during the darkest months of the pandemic, the one who made jokes about his daughter’s boyfriend and who told them that it would be alright."
