Now, every year, they honor him by encouraging their employees to step away from their desks, their emails, and their phones to go do something they love with people they love. They also encourage those in their community to do the same. How would you spend your half day? Tell us here. |
IN THE NEWS If you’re a Cynopsis early bird, this news won’t come too late: House Speaker Paul Ryan will give his first in-depth broadcast network interview since announcing his retirement from Congress to Gayle King. The CBS This Morning co-host will interview Ryan live in D.C. today at 8a. CNBC is reporting that National Amusements’ Shari Redstone is likely to replace CBS CEO Les Moonves and the CBS board if CBS and Viacom, which are both controlled by National Amusements, can’t reach a merger deal. Viacom made a counter offer to CBS’s initial bid; CBS is expected to counter back. In addition to a valuation gap, a sticking point is people: Moonves wants to keep his current COO, Joe Ianniello, as his number 2, while Redstone wants to install Viacom CEO Bob Bakish in the slot. Responding to the story, CBS said, “The industry and the marketplace know Leslie Moonves’ record and we think it speaks for itself.” National Amusements said it “has tremendous respect for Les Moonves and it has always been our intention that he run a combined company.” In a memo to staff, Bakish didn’t mention the merger talks, but said he “couldn’t be more proud of the creative momentum across the company.” Sinclair Broadcast Group, under fire for scripting anchors’ warnings about “fake news,” posted a link on the web site of Sinclair stations to a video attacking CNN. The video claims it’s hypocritical for CNN to object to Sinclair’s tactics when the message was similar to warnings given by CNN’s own Brian Selter. “Is it really news that fake news is a concern in 2018, or is this an attack on Sinclair?” asked the video. Responded Selter, “There’s a huge difference between my coverage and Sinclair’s mandatory promos. No one tells me what to say.” The winners of New York Festivals’ International Television & Film Awards were announced at NAB. The 5 Grand Awards went to Diana: In Her Own Words (1895 Films); Frontline PBS’s Mosul; Dentsu Inc. digital movie Yamazaki Moments; and National Geographic’s Jane and Genius. truTV is re-airing 2017 hour-long documentary The Problem with Apu on Sunday, April 15 at 7p - opposite The Simpsons.
