How should networks and marketers weigh the benefits and risks of next-generation TV data sources for their business? A new TiVo report, “Rethinking the Small Screen: How New Sources of Viewing Date are Transforming TCV,” outlines the challenges facing highly scaled, granular measurement, like datasets associating all viewing behavior to a single ID, data quality transparency, consumer privacy and lack of standards. But progress is being made. “Greater data scale, quality standards, privacy protections and ease of access through aggregation will enable marketers and networks to more seamlessly leverage the strengths of both STB and ACR data,” concludes the whitepaper. “People-based marketing will become a reality as marketers and networks stop evaluating TV ad exposure in aggregate demographic groups and instead map individual TV viewing behavior to cross-device marketing exposure and attributed outcomes.” For clarity on the TV measurement conundrum, register for TODAY’s Cynopsis webinar, What You Need to Know About Ratings, Now, with Nielsen, comScore, NBCUniversal and Data + Math all offering info and insights.
