NEW SERIES Bug Juice: My Adventures at Camp debuts on Disney Channel on Monday, July 16 at 7:30p. Docu-series will air Monday-Thursday during the summer. Which cartoon character would you most like to see come to life? Let us know in the Cynopsis poll: http://cynopsis.com/poll/. (In our last poll, which asked how Roseanne Barr’s character should be written off in the spin-off, 35% said she should be sent away due to mental health issues; 34% said the character should succumb to a prescription pill overdose; 26% opted for the never-seen “Where’s Roseanne?” strategy, and 6% wanted her to run off with Tom Arnold.) DIGITAL Netflix is retiring a website feature that allowed subscribers to write and read reviews of TV shows, following “declining usage over time.” The streamer told users that while it has had star ratings for much of its history, “we’ve learned through over a year of testing that while we’ve used stars to help you personalize your suggestions, many of our members are confused about what they do.” A survey from Cowen & Co. found that more respondents age 18-24, or almost 40%, used Netflix most often to view video content. YouTube came in second with 17%, followed by basic ad-supported cable (13%), Hulu (7.6%) and broadcast TV (7.5%). What data breach? Facebook stock hit a record high of $203.23 after news broke that the social media giant landed rights to all 380 Premier League soccer matches for 2019-2022 in Asian territories. “While regulators and the press have had a field day attacking Facebook’s behavior, we continue to believe consumers simply could not care less - they love Facebook and all of its key services,” said BTIG analyst Rich Greenfield, who raised his 12-month price target to $275. Google is being sued by two Ohio residents for giving third-party developers access to users’ inboxes. While Google says it only grants access to “relevant data” to vetted developers who “accurately represent themselves,” James Coyne and Michael Coyne allege Google violated California state privacy law, a state consumer law and a state computer fraud law. Smart speaker company Sonos filed for its initial public offering on Friday. The company is seeking a $2.5 billion to $3 billion valuation, according to Bloomberg. Sonos said it has sold over 19 million products in 7 million households. In its SEC filing, CEO Patrick Spence noted, “Short-term fluctuations and uneven product cadences are built into our business model. This means we won’t be right for every investor. But if you share our desire to achieve long-term success…then we invite you to join us.” The resume of music industry trailblazer Vo Williams includes Empire, Ballers, Lethal Weapon, SNL and Atlanta. Williams, who aims to write music “with purpose,” talks about music’s place in storytelling in Cynsiders. MEASUREMENT & DATA Light and non-TV viewers represent a large percentage of the TV audience but a small percentage of TV time spent and commercial impressions, according to a cross media Nielsen study commissioned by Westwood One. The study found 17% of Americans A18-49 represent 50% of total TV commercial impressions. 44% in the demo are light- or non-TV viewers, and account for just 9% of total TV commercial impressions. The report suggests one way advertisers can reach light TV viewers is AM/FM radio, which reaches 90% of that group. GOING GLOBAL Howard Donald (Take That) and racing star Dario Franchetti will host four-part Mission Ignition, centered on enthusiasts rebuilding classic cars, for UK’s Channel 4. |
