The Television Academy addressed Mindy Kaling’s claim in a recent interview with Elle magazine that she had to fight to be included among the producers listed by the Television Academy for The Office. “They made me, not any of the other producers, fill out a whole form and write an essay about all my contributions as a writer and a producer,” Kaling told Elle. “I had to get letters from all the other male, white producers saying that I had contributed, when my actual record stood for itself.” The Television Academy responded that the rule in place at that time required every producer to submit a form explaining their producer bona fides, due to concerns that too many ineligible producers, like those not involved in day-to-day production of series, were being included among the crowd accepting awards on stage. Lionsgate is reportedly considering plans to turn premium channels Starz and Encore into a separate company in an effort to address some of the studio’s debt loan. According to the Wall Street Journal, Lionsgate is looking at a sale or a spinoff, or a special-purpose acquisition vehicle that would entail a new company buying Starz and then starting a new public offering. As per the report, a “significant portion” of Lionsgate’s $2.9 billion in debt would be transferred to the new company. Jenna Dewan is set to host Fox’s new dating series Flirty Dancing, a U.S. adaptation of the hit British reality format. The series is expected to premiere this winter. Add Norman Lear to the list of high-profile creative talent being honored at the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards. Headshot, video, resume to: Sean De Simone at: QXHcasting@gmail.com TECH TALK Google introduced technology, built on artificial intelligence, that estimates how likely its visitors will land on publisher sites that serve the same ad through Google Ad Manager, without revealing any data through third-party cookies. It’s a way for advertisers to manage ad frequency in Display & Video 360, a programmatic ad campaign management platform. It’s also intended to reduce the number of times the ad is served to a specific consumer without collecting data and compromising their privacy. The tool, expected to be added into Google Ads for display in the near future, will generate predictive models based on traffic patterns where a third-party cookie is available and analyze them at an aggregated level across Google Ad Manager. Twitter admitted it erred, “inadvertently” using the email addresses and phone numbers of select users to serve them targeted ads. Those email addresses and phone numbers were supposed to help protect users’ accounts using two-factor authentication and other security measures. However, the sensitive information was mistakenly fed into Twitter Tailored Audiences and Partner Audiences ad systems. Tailored Audiences lets marketers target ads to customers based on their own marketing lists, including email addresses and phone numbers. With Partner Audiences, marketers can use Tailored Audiences to target ads to audiences provided by third-party partners.
