PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
 
Animal Planet is working with Coyote Peterson, host of YouTube’s Brave Wilderness channel, to develop a new long-form TV series featuring wild expeditions and rare up-close animal experiences. Series will premiere in 2019 and target Peterson’s 13 million-strong “Coyote Pack” as well as Animal Planet’s global audience.
 
Christopher G. Cowen, who served as an exec producer on CNN’s Decades series, is launching a TV, feature documentary and branded content company, Station 10 Media, as part of a joint venture with Boardwalk Pictures. Boardwalk will supply production and post-production support for Station 10 projects. “There has never been another time in the history of television or film where more opportunities for creators have existed,” said Cowen.
 
FX has put in development crime drama Piety, from Wes Brown (Preacher) and Noah Hawley’s 26 Keys Productions.

NBC gave a script commitment to The Bone Collector, based on the Jeffery Deaver bestsellers and 1999 movie, from VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli (S.W.A.T.), Universal Television and Sony Pictures Television.
 
Netflix renewed animated comedy Big Mouth for season three. Series follows middle schoolers with emotional baggage.
 
Fox gave a script commitment plus penalty to comedies Uncle Joey, starring comedian Joey Diaz, and Significant Brother, written by Scott King (Difficult People) and Moe Jelline (You Again). Both come from Lionsgate and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Season two of Showtime’s SMILF premieres Sunday, January 20, at 10:30p. Among the comedy’s guest stars for its sophomore run are Melanie Griffith (Working Girl), Ally Sheedy (Psych) and Trump accuser Stormy Daniels.
 
Season three of Young Justice: Outsiders premieres Friday, January 4, on the DC Universe streaming platform. First two seasons of the animated series aired on Cartoon Network from 2010-2013.

Seventy-four-year-old Seventeen is going digital first after the December 2018/January 2019 issue. The fashion and lifestyle magazine’s website will cover content previously found in the print edition, supplemented by stand-alone special issues. Circulation for Seventeen dropped from ten times a year to six in 2016.
 
Android users experienced a brief Instagram outage on Saturday. The bug was fixed and users still having issues were told to clear their cache and reinstall the app. 
 
WarnerMedia’s cult fave streaming service FilmStruck, which offers access to classic films from the Criterion Collection, is set to shutter at the end of the month, but fans will soon have another option - through an arrangement with WarnerMedia. In Spring 2019 the Criterion Channel will launch as a free-standing streaming service. The library of films will also be part of WarnerMedia’s direct-to-consumer platform, slated for a 4Q19 launch. 
 
Streaming service BritBox will celebrate “Britmas” next month, with original programs, premieres, and live broadcasts featuring celebrities including Mary Berry (Mary Berry’s Absolute Favorites), Kenneth Branagh (Upstart Crow Christmas Special), Hugh Bonneville (Mr. Stink), Patrick Stewart (Snow Queen), Rowan Atkinson (Maigret) and John Cleese (Hold the Sunset Christmas Special), among others. 
 
 
ADVERTISING
 
Google Ads is letting advertisers run an experimental ad format to promote Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Ads will show at the top of search results and be included as parts of the ads that have Promotion Extensions. To participate, advertisers add Promotion Extensions for Black Friday and Cyber Monday and create ad groups with relevant keywords and creatives.
 
In a new survey by Clinch, 79% of consumers said Facebook was the most effective social media platform to reach them, and 70% purchased a product or service after seeing an ad on social media. But only 31% said they felt ads were tailored to them at least 75% of the time.

Opposite the NFL on Fox, ABC’s TGIT winter finales gave the net its best Thursday results in five weeks. Leading the trio was Grey’s Anatomy, which hit a season-high 7.3 million viewers and best-since-premiere 1.7/7 among A18-49, and had a crossover episode with Station 19.
 
The 19th Annual Latin Grammy Awards delivered an average audience of 2.7 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.2 million A18-49 and 511,000 A18-34 to Univision. During the show’s final hour, the net drew more A18-49 and A18-34 viewers than ABC, NBC, and CBS.
