A Black memorial in Newburgh has taken over a decade to move forward

A crew of archeologists in 2008 unearth the remains of hundreds of black men, women and children buried under a site that would become the Newburgh City Courthouse.

Newburgh is moving forward plans to memorialize the remains of 99 people at Downing Park even as the park challenges the location.
